Friendly smart attentive, and willing members of staff from check in to check out. Staff were the best I have known, primarily as quite chilled and not overly formal. I simply cannot stand any place where the staff appear subservient. Here the balance was perfect. Cleanliness 10/10. Top brand bathroom goods, and above all the hotel has a nice atmosphere. Oh, and the price of approx. £110 per night was fair for central Oslo. The only complaint I have is about the couple who sat at the breakfast .
all reviews » When I checked in to this Hotel i didn't like the first room I had, I am very particular in when it comes to colors of my sorounding specially when it comes to the colors of room or colors of the curtain( some people are just like this) I called the reception right away and asked them if they could give me another room with light soroudings...5 minutes later they gave me the room that was just perfect..excellent service..no wonder I am here when I am in Oslo. This hotel is well located in central Oslo opposite the National Theatre, so it's close to tram/underground links as well as a short walk to some key attractions, eg. Royal Palace (open Summer), National Gallery, main harbour, Karl Johans Street, etc. The breakfast is plentiful and good quality. What sets this hotel apart though is it's superb staff - they are knowledgeable, helpful and without exception made us feel welcome during our week stay. Thanks!. The location can't be beat. Just across the street from the metro to the airport and bus and tram lines are just outside the door. The hotel is very elegant, the staff very friendly and helpful. One of the men at the front desk had suggestions on what cross-country ski trails to take. That certainly isn't something you'd find at any hotel. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. The beds were heavenly to sleep on and the hotel was very quiet. I had accidentally booked a single room for two and the staff promptly replied to my emails and found a double room (for a price). Guests should be aware that the 5* hotel rating in Norway should not be confused with a 5* resort rating we find in some other countries, then nor is the price. The Continental is more old like an old Rolls Royce than a pimped up Bentley, and in my view all the better for it. Looking forward to the famous Theatercaféen re-opening in August following completion of its minor refurb. My room faced a side street which was fine 2 out of the 3 nights I was there. But, on Saturday night the nightclub/disco across the street was really, really loud. I can usually ignore things like this, but it was really loud. So, ask for a room that doesn't face the side street. The bathroom was a bit small and certain things were broken. The carpets also didn't feel quite clean with bits of fuzz and grub prominent. The tea with breakfast was horrible, tasted like dishwater which was surprising since everything else was excellent. Not a thing. Nothing. I can't think of anything. The exchange rate of the nok to the us dollar. It is so prohibitive, that we are unlikely to return to Norway as tourists anytime soon-- despite it being the location of my wife's ancestors. The bed was bit on the soft side and the pillows were foam. Old fashioned room design. Seems to be renovated 10 years ago, but clean... No hair dryer. The drinks/food was expensive, but it is Oslo it costs a zillion $ for a coffee. Nothing. I would have liked tea making facilities in the room. Their world-famous Theater Cafeen Restaurant was closed during our visit Norway, and particularly Oslo, is not for the budget conscious. Restaurant closed whilst we were there (but forced us to eat out). Nothing. nothing. No blackout curtains and it never really got dark!. A little old fashioned decor. The noise from the nightclub across the street which went on until 3:00 AM. single room is too small. Miscommunication by booking agent resulted in smaller rooms than wanted to accommodate two adult pairs and a child. No kettle and tea making facilities in room. NB I know this is not what 5 star hotels do, but it's a real pain for English people. Also the hotel is looking a bit jaded, compared to other 5 star hotels I've stayed in. The decor is old-fashioned and there is no spa or pool. In the breakfast room, the tables are too close to other to other customers and are too small. Not v 5 star. The whole place needs money spending on it. Not enough pillows for the bed. Bed too soft.
