Location, friendly and helpful staff and good quality food.Large room and facilities in room. The location of the hotel was very convenient, near the Central Station and only a short walk to the centre of Leiden. convenience location, closed to Leiden central station and old town centre. Extra charge for breakfast -- beyond the Hotel itself, there is nowhere else to go! And the decor was a bit old-fashioned. To hot in the room.......the divided bed covers. The rooms could have been cleaner. The menu in the restaurant was repetitive. Kitchen staff smoking and talking outside, below our bedroom window, late at night. Thin bedroom walls. We wondered what the earplugs in the room were for!. Nearby construction work made the room quite noisy. It was my second time at the Golden Tulip, after two years, and I somehow felt the room wasn't as clean as it was the first time. The second day of my stay they didn't even bother to make the bed again, they just slightly rearranged the pillows and the bed cover and that was it! This shouldn't happen in a 4 star hotel. Also, the A/C-heating system is awfully loud and it doesn't really work.The "artificial" orangejuice during breakfast is really a shame!!. The most ridiculous one is that you have to pay a 50 Euro bail even when paying in advance for your hotel room. Sheets with holes, loud airco sytem sound (probable from the kitchen,) things repaired/sticked together in the room with tape, dirty/sticky remote control from television. I will make a report from this hotel for a Japanse travel org, with a negative advice. In relation to price terrible. Some items in the minibare where overdue, TV was not working properly (switched itself off at random intervals). The hotel for the price is very poor in terms of service for instanace there is no restaurant open on Sunday night, so you need to go out to eat. Also Room service non-existent after 10.00PM which is also not acceptable, when You ask why there is no room service the answer is we don't have enough staff.

Information about the area
Leiden is the birth place of Rembrandt van Rijn and you can do the ‘Rembrandt walk’ that takes in significant landmarks relating to the artist. The Lakenhal Museum holds some of his master pieces.
Leiden offers much more, however. You can enjoy a boat trip through the canals, cycle along the flower fields, shop in the old city centre, admire historical buildings and go sailing in the North Sea.

4 trains stop at Leiden Central Station every hour. You will find the hotel 200 metres to your left after exiting through the main entrance.
By car from the A44 motorway:
- Take the Afrit 8 exit for Leiden Katwijk and follow signs for Centrum / Station.
- When you have passed under the railway, turn left at the traffic lights and continue through a tunnel.
- On exit, turn left at the traffic lights. You will find the hotel on your left.
