Hotel Estheréa is set along the Singel canal in the centre of Amsterdam, only 300 metres from Dam Square. This hotel is in a quiet area and benefits from classically-styled decor with wooden paneling. Free WiFi access is available. The room was absolutely wonderful, the staff friendlyand helpful and went out of their way to get our room ready at 10.30 in the morning even though we just asked to leave our case. The complimentary drinks and cakes in the reception area were much appreciated after a day's sightseeing. We enjoyed every moment in the hotel. I have visited Amsterdam on many occasions, the rooms are usually expensive, very small and of a poor quality. This cannot be said of the Estherea, the rooms are immaculate and staff are genuinely very friendly. My only complaint was that the bed was too comfortable, and I struggled to get out of it. I will definitely stay at the Estherea again.my wife and i stayed in this hotel in February, which was very cold. the first things we noticed when we first walked in was the gorgeous aroma of fresh bulbs, the warmth, and the friendly staff at reception. the entire hotel was spotless, neat and tidy. our room was ample in size and well decorated, the bathroom well suited for two guests. Location was excellent. I have stayed in many Amsterdam hotels and this is one of the best. There was a small problem with our room (extractor fan did not turn off) and the receptionist offered me another room immediately. The beds were extremely comfortable and free tea/coffee/chocolate was available next to the bar. Highly recommended.The location, and its proximity to good-quality restaurants; the ambience; the buffet-type breakfasts, which were attractively presented and were well provided with a variety of good breads and other foods; the staff at rreception and elsewhere in the hotel, who were gracious and helpful at all times, and unfailingly courteous. We enjoyed the walk in thecold but, others may not like it. the room wasn't so big , there is no coffee maker in the room .Price of 750ml Evian water in the reception bar was 5 Euros - far too expensive, so make sure you have always some water in the room. The price of the breakfast offered was rather high. I chose to eat my breakfasts elsewhere. Don't let this deter you, however, from staying at the hotel.No. We booked a double room but we actually had 2 single beds pushed together with single duvets etc.It's not set up as a business hotel -- ie the phone is in a strange position next to the bed, and cant be used from the desk. There are lots of electrical outlets, but not next to the desk (for computers). I used my own extension cord, which is fine. These are small complaints next to the general excellence of the hotel. And I was disturbed by noisy renovations that woke me up a couple of times. lights had to be on to get tv to work. The in room massage person was a novice and not very good. I was sad to spend the 100.00 on the poor massage when I could used it for something more worthwhile. My pillow was a bit too big and fluffy. (Can that even be a complaint?). There was nothing we did not like about this hotel. Breakfast was very good, but perhaps a little too expensive. A pity they do not include breakfast as 16 euro is a bit pricey.

Hotel information details

Hotel Estheréa was founded during the second world war by Maria Flieger-Gruyters, mother of three daughters. She lost her husband Joseph in the war and moved to Amsterdam to earn a living. She rented a house along the canal in which she started a small inn with 12 rooms. During the years after the war she also bought neighbouring houses and expanded her inn.

Today, the Estheréa has 71 rooms spread over 6 houses (4 houses along the canal and 2 houses in the Spuistraat, all connected with each other). Unfortunately, Maria Flieger-Gruyters passed away in 1992 and one of her three daughters, Elly Esselaar-Flieger took over together with her husband Rob and her three children Jan-Willem, Caroline and Esther. Today the third generation is setting forth what Maria started more than 60 years ago.

The historical buildings are dating back to the 17th century. The comfortable rooms are renovated approximately every 5 years. In addition to the listed facilities, they are all equipped with a private bathroom and wireless internet. Our elevator reaches all rooms.

In our elegant lounge with canal view we serve complimentary coffee and tea.
We sell foreign newspapers and there is a small library with books in different languages that you can borrow during your stay. We have colouring books and pencils for our small guests as well as baby beds and a high chair in the breakfast room (all free of charge).

Please note that extra beds are subject to availability and need to be confirmed by the hotel in advance. Guests are kindly requested to inform the hotel when traveling with children. Please note that the car park only provides space for cars within the following measurements: max. size H 1950mm x W 2050mm x L 5100mm, max. weight 2000 kg. Please note that an authorization is made on your credit card for any incidentals upon arrival. Please note the hotel will preauthorize the credit card with the amount of the first night.

How to reach us:

From the airport
At Schiphol airport, you can either take the Connexxion shuttle bus, taxi or train. The Shuttle bus leaves regularly from Schiphol and passes all the major hotels in Amsterdam. Costs: approx. Euro 12,00 per person. You can find taxi's just outside the arrival hall and this is the fastest way to reach the hotel. Costs: between Euro 35,00 and 40,00.
There is a train station right under the airport. Trains to Amsterdam Central Station depart every 20 minutes. Costs: approx. Euro 4,00 per person. Walking distance from Central Station to Hotel Estherea is 1500 m. You can take a taxi at Central Station. Costs: approx. Euro 10,00.
You can also take tram number 1,2 or 5 and you get off at stop 'Spui'. From Spui it is a 3 minute walk to the hotel.

By Car
If you bring your own car to Amsterdam, and reach the A10 (the highway that surrounds Amsterdam), take exit no. S 105 and follow the signs 'centrum'. When you reach the Singel canal, just before the Royal palace, turn right. Cross the second bridge to reach the other side of the canal and you will find us at house no. 303-309. You can park your car in front of the hotel in order to unload your luggage. We will then give you directions to either a guarded parking nearby or public parking spots on the street. Please note that you need to buy a parking ticket in all the public parking areas. You will find parking meters in the streets. If you do not pay the parking, police will put a wheel clamp on your car and this is an expensive and unpleasant experience.

At the reception we also sell parking tickets for the whole day.

Parking in Amsterdam is quite expensive. We therefore recommend that you use the Car Hotel service.They will collect and safely garage your car for a pick up fee plus a fiexx (reasonable) amount per day storage,then return it to you on your departure. On arrival our receptionist can call this service for you,however as it normally takes approximately 30 minutes to arrive we recommend that you park close to the Rembrandtplein and pay for one hours parking so your car isn't clamped while you wait for the service.It is not possible to book this service in
advance.
