The Prince perhaps shows its age but in such an elegant way. Our rooms were large, elegant and very comfortable. We were being budget conscious at the time we stayed and so didn't eat at the restaurant as we heard it was on the expensive side. You can pick up plenty of interesting and delicious food at Moto Hakone convenience shop. There isn't much public transport to and from Moto Hakone in the off season though. The spa facilities at the Prince were very enjoyable especially the outdoor spa.
all reviews » the hotel is clean and comfortable and the onsen is fabulous! there are one bath inside and one outside, sauna and places to wash yourself. position on the lake is spectacular but a bit isolated and restaurants in the hotel are expensive. they have a free shuttle service from Odawara station. staff was very polite. garden room was huge. location is close yo everything if you have a car. lake ashi and fuji view is beautiful, especially at sunrise. there are benches on property to take in the view. We like the services of Hotel, however, we come late 5 minutes and the driver refuse us to take free shuttle bus from train station to the hotel. We have to take taxi. Taxi fee to the hotel is rather high. The location was stunning with the room overlooking the lake. When we were there it was cloudy so unfortunately we could not see Mt. Fuji. The hot spring facility was also wonderful. The room was big and had a balcony. We could see Ashinoko and the forest. The personnel was very friendly. There is an onsen with an outside pool. We woke up to a breathtaking view of Mt Fuji. The surrounding of the resort was also beautiful! The onsen was definitely a wonderful experience!. Spacious rooms with two queen-size beds in a double room. Location directly on the lake. Best for having a break in nature. The view from the annex was awesome. Very friendly and helpful staff. No problems other than the need to be aware of public transport availability. The hotel is a resort in itself and so once you get there you could be happy to stay put and it's a nice walk into Moto Hakone. wifi doesn't work in our room. view from our garden room was a view of building, but room was beautiful. The paucity of restaurants and they were very expensive. We were not told of the excellent food at a fraction of the price available round the corner where there were shops as well. However these opened very late in the day and closed early making choices quite difficult in a remote location. On our last night we were driven to a distant Chinese restaurant but that choice was not offered on our first night so we had to eat in the hotel. There are buses and boats to Moto Hakone and Togendai but not in the late evening hours. Wlan is available only in the lobby, but there is lan in the room if you have your laptop. The hotel was too big and takes a bit of walk and time to find the onsen as signs were a bit small. But once we found the onsen it was totally worth it!. There are no restaurants for dinner in the vicinity, except the ones in the hotel, which are quite expensive (10.000 yen/person for a menu). There is no internet in rooms, although it says so on the reservation confirmation. As everywhere else in Japan, nobody speaks English, so be prepared to make yourself understood with gestures. Restaurants on site were pricey, albeit delicious. Restaurant is on expensive side. Not much but the location is not the best in the Hakone area. Can get lost and go in circles (the hotel is comprised of 2 circular buildings). It is a resort, so food-wise we had limited choices. It was a little over priced. The food in the hotel was way over priced for the meal. We will eat out in town next time!. Restaurant (french) was way overpriced. Not bad, but way overpriced. Hotel rather isolated, nearest small town 45 mins walk away and public transport finished running around 4pm, it would have been good to have shops/restaurants accessible that weren't in Prince Hotels grounds. Bus shuttle service to nearest Hakone town for shopping & local food. it's far from the village so you can't go out from the hotel without a car. Tough to get to if arriving after 4:00 P.M. prices too high in restaurants. Limited food choices and being very expensive and nothing close by - referring to dinner. No shuttle service to town A bit isolated. Location is off the main tourist trail, and no shuttles provided to the nearest town. It's a good 40 min walk to hakone machi. The hotel is dated. Needs a rejuvenation.
