After reading some of the earlier reviews we went to the hotel with some trepidation! In the event none of the the earlier reviewers' problems affected us and we enjoyed a comfortable stay in this exceptional location with helpful staff and excellent food in restaurant both at breakfast and dinner.Locality. The hotel is very well situaded. I took a panoramic room and it was really worth of it: we got an amazing view of the medieval "cité", which is only 15min by walking. The hotel's restaurante is very nice and very well assisted by the "maître". It's a good option in Carcassonne. The room was as published, with a great view of the Cité. The hotel restaurant was very good, with a reasonably-priced menu, a choice of interesting and well-prepared dishes, and pleasant service.The hotel is situated so that you can look out over the walled grounds and it also have underground secure parking. The view from our most expensive panoramic double bedroom was a parking in front of the hotel, some trees and a river/canal. The castle/old town was only visible when we come out on a balcony, which we didnt do very often because it was the middle of november. So I guess I could pay less money for a bedroom with a normal view instead of a panoramic view which we didnt get.The restaurant was tacky.No mirror in Bedroom, only in bathroom. Not satisfactory when trying to use hairstraightners etc. Reported that lamp was not functioning. This left room quite dark. nothing seemed to be done about this from Fri. to Mon. Mediocre architecture of the hotel in such a wonderful location. Hotel is run down and needs to be renovated. Would rate it about 6.3. The furniture was outdated and sparten; only 2 chairs and small desk. A table and balcony furniture would have enhanced our stay while enjoying the views.Breakfast expensive; difficulty using door key-card. The double room was just so small and we are big people! We would certainly not have been happy to stay there for more than one night. The price was great.We had a 1st floor end room, which was occasionally noisey from late night revellers and mopeds. Breakfast looked poor and for the price, so we decided to eat elsewhere. Although the restaurant had a fabulous view. Very small WC; WC door hit against main door return; staff could have been more friendly. Would have liked " Stand up " hands free shower. Bedroom fittings poor quality. Cupboard door hinge was broken.The outside needs decorating, and inside also tired. Breakfast was 11euros each and advertised as an american breakfast, but it was an averagebuffet and very overpriced. The exterior was awful the room small the bed uncomfortable and the room badly needed re decorating. Reception staff dissinterested and the reception desk too high to be friendly orientated. The hotel looked terrible from the outside. The view from the room was ugly. The room itself was a smoking room, marks on the sink surround, the furniture was shabby.room smells terrible .it is not clean ,it is small etc.
