Wateredge Inn stands on the shores of Lake Windermere, a short walk from Ambleside centre. Set across two former 17th century fishermen's cottages, it offers cosy bedrooms and period features. The individual bedrooms each have an en-suite bathroom and tea and coffee facilities. Rooms also have a flat-screen TV, hairdryer, and a comfortable seating area. Many rooms feature lake views and some have lake view balconies or garden patios. A traditional full English breakfast is served daily. The popular bar and restaurant serves seasonal local produce and local real ales. Guests can enjoy the log fire, lake views and outside terrace and gardens. Surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains, Wateredge has its own boat slipway and jetty and is just metres from the steamer pier for cruises down the lake. While staying at the Wateredge Inn, guests can make use of a local leisure club with a swimming pool. The inn is also close to popular walking tracks and cycle paths.

The room was quirky inasmuch that it was on two levels with a beautiful refurbished bathroom, a dressing table area and wardrobe, then up four stairs to the bedroom and sitting area. Nothing was lacking in facilities. THe restaurant and bar areas were always busy and popular with walkers and visitors to the area. The food and service by the restaurant staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Reception staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I shall definitely stay at Wateredg.

The room was nicely decorated and comfortable as was the bathroom. The inns lounge and dining areas were very nice, with again a beautiful outlook. The two Scottish sisters who waited on us for breakfast were lovely and friendly as was Ryan the bar man. The countryside around Ambleside was really beautiful and well worth a longer visit. Staff were very friendly and also efficient and professional. Great position on banks of Lake Windemere. Excellent bar,with real ales. Food was great and not over priced.Breakfast is high quality and service very good. The place gets very busy on a summers evening,however residents have a priority service area at bar so no waiting.Hotel is peaceful later in the evening,mainly residents sitting in garden and by the lake.All in all a pleasant experience. everythink about the place the staff are amazing we have been to many places over the years but we have never had such attentive polite staff . we went on recomendation and we also will be telling our friends what a lovely place the wateredge inn is. we had our two labradors with us and they where wellcome to join us at breakfast and dinner and where given a treat. the wateredge inn overlooks the lake what a lovely view. We liked everything about this hotel, the staff were great, the hotel had a wonderful lakeside position, the rooms were clean, well-furnished and had all necessary facilities. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the atmosphere in the bar/restaurant areas was relaxed and welcoming. We would definitely recommend this hotel and are looking forward to return visit next time we stay in this area. Staff were so friendly and helpful, always smiling. Bedroom was cosy, spotlessly clean, comfy beds, great view from window, lovely toiletries and biscuits left for a cuppa, cosy nooks and crannies and log fire in the eating and sitting area, very fast Wifi, food tasty, well cooked and good value for money. No parking problems at hotel, lots of problems in the surrounding scenic area and very expensive!. The fact that the hotel was located right on the edge of Lake Windermere and there were plenty of chairs and tables to sit out and take in the beautiful view, weather and activities taking place on the Lake. I also liked the excellent choice of menu and food and the fact that the hotel was dog friendly and you could have your dog with you in the hotel whilst you were having your meal. Fantastic location, I'd pinned my hopes on getting a lake-view room and although this wasn't to be the room was tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. It provided a good base to explore the village and for our long walk up the hills on the Saturday. The breakfast was good, during which the staff couldn't have been more attentive. We both loved it and plan to visit again. We have visited the Wateredge Inn for a meal in the past and found the food and service exellent, so we decided to book for a weekend away. I must say I was not disappointed The food and service were perfect, the room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I would highly recommed to anyone thinking of taking a break, I will certainly be returning in the near future. Excellent staff, a really fresh clean and thoughtful conversion of old buildings, internal decor very good and our bedroom superb. Staff very attentive at reception and great at breakfast. Complaint dealt with very well.Food basic but good. This is a pub plus B+B so expect a full carpark and some background customer noise as people come in and out until closing time. Everything! Location,great food, clean rooms,lovely atmosphere etc. Staff were fantastic, especially at breakfast there was a young lad (Luke I think) and he was really lovely to our baby, got her a biscuit, checked she had enough milk etc, little things that mean a lot!! But everyone was great all the time and we will be recommending this one to all our friends!!. The studio apartment I booked was a very good late deal. Very good price for such a lovely room. The room was warm, clean and very nice. The location was lovely, right by the lake. The staff were very polite and helpful. Perfect location with walking distance to Ambleside town (10-15 mins) where there are lots of eating places. Short stroll to pier where you could take lake cruises. The lake was mirror like in the mornings which was lovely when I went for an early morning run. Staff were helpful when organising day trips. Good variety for breakfast . Staff were all very efficient and welcoming. We felt like we were being pampered and made to feel special. Excellent customer service is obviously important and is achieved by a first class team. Food was top notch and having real ale is a big plus. Setting on lake just stunning. Just a great hotel and we will be returning soon. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Think we had a family room, as there was a double bed and a single. It was on the roadside but the traffic noise wasn't a problem for us. Liked the fact they were dog friendly, our dog joined us for breakfast, in a special section in the bar. The staff were very courteous. Service in the bar was prompt and efficient. The views are spectacular from the bar/restaurant. The room I had was a single and was fairly small but actually more spacious than many I have stayed in before and plenty of room for luggage etc. Room was nice and warm while it was freezing outside. Ambleside was very busy when we arrived but at the Watersedge we found a parking space right outside the door. Check-in was simple and the room a delight. Nicely decorated with great views of the lake. The food was so good we had lunch and dinner there. Breakfast staff were very cheerful and the menu had plenty of choice. gorgeous location, excellent,friendly and professional staff, spotless throughout. Welcoming bar with good beers, malts and wines. Food very good and breakfasts offering very good choice. Terrace and lawned area leads onto Lake Windermere with sumptious views. Cannot fault the place. Will definitely return soon. this was the second time at the wateredge inn in ambleside, and we would go again in the future. the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, and the room(studio) was clean warm and spacious. also the location is great for many walks around loughrigg tarn, rydal and grassmere. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional. The location superb with breathtaking views f Lake Windermere. Location perfect for Beatrix Potter tourism and for castles and walks through streams, mountains etc. Loved every minute--disappointed to leave--incredibly relaxing.FABULOUS TIME!!. The room was clean, welcoming and well decorated. It had fabulous views of Windermere lake. The hotel is in an excellent location on the edge of the lake. We have stayed there several times and in different rooms and all were of an excellent standard. Food good and staff friendly and helpful. We had a lovely large room with wonderful views of Lake Windemere. The room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable. We had one meal at the hotel and it was excellent as were the breakfasts. A beautiful central location where you can explore the central lakes area within a short walk, bus or boat ride. The inn served great food and as a resident you had priority service in the restaurant which was handy at busy times. Overall it was a great 3 night stay. Lovely accommodation, very spacious suite and comfortable bed. Hotel right on the head of Lake Windermere with magnificent and uninterrupted views of the lakes and the peaks beyond. Can imagine during the summer months with a few more guests that place is great for a getaway to the stunning lakes. DEFINATELY returning!!. Superb location overlooking the lake and the attractiveness of the hotel was further enhanced by the beautiful Christmas decorations. The friendly, efficient staff and high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel all contributed to a lovely stay. We had a loverley nights stay,the atmosphere was very relaxing, the staff very frendly and professional. The food was great and reasonablly priced the Inn was clean and well presented. We would definatly go back and reccomend to friends and family. Booked a late deal to get a few days relaxation mixed with a bit of luxury. Our stay totally lived up to our expectations. Staff were great and the room which had its own garden was fantastic! Location could not have been better, lake Windermere was a 30 second stroll away and could be seen from our room!. I stayed in a single room that was surprisingly roomy split over two levels. All the staff were fantastic, welcoming and engaging. Really enjoyed my stay. Wonderful location excellent staff. Fantastic room with wonderful lake views. Let us have the room slightly earlier when I explained I had just come off a night shift and was tired and wanted to relax. Unfortunately the particular room we had was quite small and couldn't even fit two suitcases, though unfortunately one of ours was large as we were on an overseas trip for 5 weeks. Next time we would book a bigger room. nothing to say hear as there are no negative issues. Nothing to dislike here !!!!. Would have liked a bit more variety on breakfast buffet, prunes, fresh fruit perhaps. We would have appreciated a little help in getting our heavy luggage up the stairs when we arrived!. Nothing - we had a very enjoyable stay. some rooms are in the old building and can suffer from creaking floors and sound travelling through the ceiling from the floor above. We were woken at 1 am and kept awake by TV/phone calls until 3am, woken again by falling objects, heavy walking and talking from 4.30 am until we gave up and got up at 6am. Not great after an exhausting day. Our complaint was dealt with very sensitively, a hotel cannot choose it's customers but needs to soundproof well. Nothing to not like!!. Evening menu was quite pricey for basic pub food. Road noise from the room. The rooms were very hot. We slept with windows open which made it noisy. Our stay was over too soon. Had a problem getting a table for evening dinner. As guests are not able to reserve, we found that outside customers filled up the tables for best part of the evening. Chef could do with turning his toaster up a bit!. poor signal strength fow WiFi. i couldnt find anything i didnt like. There are a fair few stairs but we only found this hard due to mild disability. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FINE!. A difficult right turn exit from the car-park onto the main road; which has a rather sharp bend and you cannot sufficiently see oncoming traffic. The room was extremely hot as there is no air conditioning. Also as we were in the old part of the building it was creaky which was noisy in the night. Hotel suite sighted adjacent to a busy road. Fortunately there was no traffic at night. That we only stayed for one night. The food at dinner left a lot to be desired but no complaints about breakfast. No complaints. Nothing to dislike or complain about. No issues with the hotel at all. Note that the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Ambleside and Borans Road on the west side of Ambleside was unlit in places late at night so take care if walking back. Use Lake Road - much better lit at night. The lake view more than makes up for the walk. We were unlucky enough to get room 7 with floor of the ensuite really unsuitable for the elderly. I feel it's just waiting for an accident to happen. We arrived at 2pm and was told by a younger member of reception to "go away and come back at 3pm". It was cold and pouring with rain. On chatting to an older member of staff she checked us in straight away - what a difference that made. Leaving so soon !. Happy with everything road noise could be a problem in summer as our bedroom was near the road but wasnt a problem when we stayed in early march. nothing not to like. Nothing to dislike - just wish eggs benedicte was on brekky menu!! But hardly life threatening!. Nothing. It was perfect. No fridge in room. Didn't like that we had to wait over an hour for our meal in the restaurant. On our first night the service was very good but the second night we had to wait over an hour for our main course. The starter arrived very quickly but the main course took a long time to arrive. Waitress was very apologetic but said there was nothing she could do as there were seven tables ahead of us, but astonishingly our meal arrived a few minutes later. There did seem to be on occasions communication issues between Reception, Bar and Kitchen where messages were not passed on, noted on several occasions with us an other guests. One example a dish ordered was not passed onto me that it was no longer available and received a totally different dish which essentially I was given a take it or leave it from the kitchen. Nothing. Ceiling was a little low in bedroom. I'm 6'1 and had to duck in places. More than made up for with all the benefits though. Nothing the hotel can do about this at all but it is located between a Youth Hostel and a park. The residents of the YH were enjoying the sun in the park until quite late. Have nothing against young people and children but it did disturb the peace a bit.
