Nikko Pension L'escale is indeed a bit out of the way from downtown (20mn walk uphill or $10 taxi ride), but it is a fantastic place and value. Pension L'Escale was wonderful! My husband and I took the train from
Tokyo for the holiday weekend and we brought our bicycles. We rode our
bikes from the Tobu-Nikko Station up to L'Escale, which was about a
mile. We arrived early Saturday morning and Fugita-san let us leave our
