We spent just one night at the Hostal Macarena, when passing Madrid on our way back from holiday. It's a lovely place in the heart of Madrid (Plaza Mayor is just behind the corner!), surrounded by many bars, restaurants and little stores. The room is quite small, but well equipped and clean. Staff doesn't speak very good English, but is very nice. I'd recommend this place especially for young people - as it's situated in the very city centre, everybody's partying and so it's quite noisy till la. alla recensioner »
Location, location, location! Two steps from the plaza Mayor and many other attractions, located on a little street with animation. Staff is courteous and helpful. They kept our luggage all day so we could walk around freely untill we left to take the train. Room was clean, confortable and big enough. Very good quality for the price. I recommend this hotel wihtout any hesitation.
Instead Hostel Macarena hosts offered us another: Sil Serranos for the
same money. For a hostel level of comfort, service and comfort is
excellent. Very kind staff and great location! Near the market and
plenty of cafes and restaurants. A cozy living area, near metro.
I loved this hotel. Its old style wont suit everyone but I thought it added to the charm of the place. Beautiful room with balcony overlooking the street, extremely clean and an excellent location close to Mercardo San Miguel. Staff were very courteous and polite.
Lovely friedly hostal in an excellent location in madrid just at the back of the plaza mayor but also has lovely bars & restaurants outsde it close to the san miguel market we went on sat night the atmosphere is amazing & the food is fab.
Very good location - kind and friendly staff. Worried that the location might result in it being too noisy but the ability to close the windows and shutters resulted in a quiet night - so much so, we overslept!.

The central location next to Plaza Mayor and the helpful staff were key highlights. Lots of good restaurants nearby and walking distance to 3 metro stations were plus points.
The location is great, in the city centre close to the Plaza Mayor and el Mercado de San Miguel. The lift was out work, but the staff were very helpful with my luggage.
The location was incredible, it is in the middle of the city, furthermore it is really safe.
It is really near from the underground station.
Perfect position just off the Playa Major. Made all our sightseeing so easy by walking or metro. For such a fair price we will come again.

Of course, the elevator didn't work so we had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Very few English speaking staff made it difficult. The room we got did not have air conditioning and it was really warm.

The location is perfect.
During our stay there was a reconstruction - they were building the lift. That's a good investment for the hotel, as it's situated on the second floor of the building (or maybe that was just because of the reconstruction?). As for just one night stay that was OK, but in case I would intend to stay here longer, I would maybe check first whether the reconstruction is finished already.

The building is suffering reconstruction, and because that there has a lot of dust, but not inside the hostel.

Late night noise but to be expected for the location. Enjoy it for what it is and take some ear plugs. Hot in room when the ambient temperature is up and the fan is vital.

Bathroom way too small.
Staff is a bit unfriendly, construction in the building made it noisier than usual. Rooms need air conditioner. The fan in the room is noisy and seems that it's going to fall off if you crank it up to full speed.
The room was not what we had expected/had agreed to buy. It was very small, extremely dark and the view was to a dark yard (basically into another room). If the rooms are so bad, you should tell it to the customer at the point of booking, not surprise them when they expect a view to the street/square.
This was a very bad surprise!.
