  We stayed for 2 nights on our arrival to Madrid (into Atocha Station, which is about a 10 minute walk straight down Calle Atocha); the young, ultra-helpful staff was a pleasure to deal with - they are sharp people and we found no shortage of good English among them. Location was outstanding, there are small street shortcuts to every major downtown... vad folk säger » spot (Puerto Sol, Plaza Mayor, the museums, Retiro Park, the double decker bus stops, great restaurants very close in Plaza Santa Ana). We had a simp - I rarely give top marks on the grounds there should always be room for some improvement but I'm struggling to find any fault with the Catalonia Atocha. Within half an hour of booking I received a "welcome" email from the hotel with detailed and useful information on how to find the hotel whatever the mode of transport, I’ve never had this before from an hotel, it boded well and I was not disappointed. Without exception the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, and equally happy to speak

  Hostal Edreira was very clean. Our room was spacious but set up awkwardly. the bed was in front of the closet so you couldn't open the door easily. The staff was very friendly and nice although they weren't always easily available. It was a great location in easy walking distance of all the major sights in Madrid. The air conditioning worked ... vad folk säger » great. - I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights and have to say I quite enjoyed my stay. The room was neat with AC and TV. The bathroom and toilet facilities were clean and tidy. The hostel was just next to the metro and was very convenient. Staff very friendly and helpful. Yes they do speak english. Good value for the price.
