We came as a group and booked both the "mansion" and the "coach house". Both were amazing - old houses on whose land I guess the other motel-like units were built. The staff and restaurant and restaurant staff were fantastically friendly and helpful. And the food especially at the restaurant - we had dinner - was some of the most delicious my partner and I ever tasted. And the view of the Derwent river was also brilliant. The ducks came right up to our back door and we could feed them. It was so peaceful and adorable.

The hot water in the shower was really hot and the pressure was good too. I could open the window to get some fresh air. I didn't realise the staff had openned it as the curtains were drawn. We arrived very late due to airline delays but the young man on reception was most helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had a compact/budget room that was far better than I expected (having read some negative reviews) and it really was great value for money. Didn't have a car so no need to worry about the carpark. We had no noise issues and had amazing views. Very clean, very comfy beds/pillows, great location as it was just a short walk to the CBD and Salamanca.

Although this motel is a fair way from the city, there are bus stops nearby so the heart of Hobart is only a mere ten minutes away! My room was clean, warm and the facilities were all there. Very close to city. Even closer to Botanical Gardens. Very cheap. Parking at the motel with extra security door from outside. Our room had a kitchenette with fridge, sink and microwave. There was also access to a kitchen if you wanted to do more serious cooking. The room had a fan and a heater. Laundry facilities. -

The staff at the Welcome Stranger are terrific. They are extremely helpful and very welcoming. We travelled with a 16 month old and found that our room was well setup to accomodate not only the adults but the baby as well. The food was extremely good value for money and delicious to boot. It is also conveniently locate close to all attractions within Hobart.
