The 5 modern, stylish bedrooms are decorated in light/neutral tones and include an en-suite or private shower room, free WiFi, TV with DVD/CD player, hairdryers and tea/coffee facilities. Flowers, chocolates or other items can be arranged for your arrival if requested.
Freshly cooked each morning, a full English breakfast is available, with a selection of juices, cereals, jams and toast, served in the bright breakfast room. Guests are 10 minutes’ walk from a wide variety of pubs and restaurants.

We booked a weekend break at the Alcuin Lodge after reading the
excellent reviews online and we were not disappointed. We were surprised
to find our room (and a parking permit ) ready for us when we arrived
early. Darren our host was very welcoming and friendly, giving us lots
of helpful tips and advice on places to go and where to eat. Alcuin
Lodge is spotlessly clean and comfortable and only a short walk to York
city centre. We stayed in the large double room, which was spacious and

This is the most beautiful guest house i have ever stayed in. Darren the owner was so welcoming and his home is amazingly clean and pristine. We stayed for my husbands 40th birthday and couldnt have found anywhere better. The bedroom was very warm and cosy with views out over york, the bed was very comfy and the bathroom well appointed. The Alcuin Lodge is only a 5 minute walk into the centre of York along the river or through the museum gardens. Darrens knowledge of York was a great help with .
Was all lovely - Darren was very accommmodating. Hotel was lovely - nice furnishings and extremely clean. Nice touches such as sweets with honesty box. Breakfast (veggie and full English) lovely. Darren told us of some places that we would not have found even though we have visited York lots before. Private bathroom was separate to bedroom but not a problem as was only down a few stairs. Would definately go again. Thank you.
Darren is very accomodating and kindly allowed us to drop off our bags early and collect them later than the suggested times. As we travelled to York by train this was an invaluable service which was greatly appreciated. He also provided excellent information on where to eat in York and served a lovely breakfast. The room was great and we would definitely recommend Alcuin Lodge to others. A super place to stay.
I booked our stay as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday - We had a very friendly welcome from Darren, and have never had such good service in a B&B. Our room was very clean, large and beautifully but simply decorated. The location was a short walk from York city centre through some lovely gardens, and the quiet location meant we could really relax in our room. Would thoroughly recommend to others.
This is in an ideal location; a very short walk to the old town of York. You are close to everything. Owner is very helpful in providing lots of ideas of what to see and where to eat. Spotlessly clean accommodation, great breakfast, comfortable spacious room and modern ensuite bathroom. Try to sneak in some time to chat with the owner as he has a wealth of knowledge on world travel! Very interesting!.
The owner was excellent!! He gave us loads of information on local attractions and little hide always that tourists wouldn't usually find.
I would recommend this guest house to everyone, who wants to stay in comfort and in a 'home away from home' setting.
The location was perfect. 5 minuets walk from the train station and a beautiful stroll through the park right into the city centre.
We arrived 45 minutes earlier than the normal check-in time but were still able to check in to our room. The room itself was very spacious, spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished, with period furniture and a lovely bathroom with a huge shower. The guest house is about a 10 minute walk from York Minster, and York itself is very compact, so nothing is too far away.
Darren was an excellent host. He was flexible with our late check-in time and very responsive to our pre-visit questions. He also made some more great suggestions once we arrived about places to eat and how to get to different places. The room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The location is outstanding. I would not hesistate to stay here again.
Darren played the perfect host to our romantic getaway. We have been to York many times before (and have stayed in some awful hotels!) and this was the nicest we have ever stayed in - definitely as good if not better than the hilton and very well priced!! Gorgeous food and a lovely, warm, comfortable bedroom. Will definitely be staying here again!.
We found Darren to be very welcoming and helpful with a friendly interested and absolutely delightful manner with us and the other guests. Our room and the house as a whole was very clean and tastefully decorated. The food was lovely. We would happily return to Alcuin and would highly recommend it to others travelling to York.
Everything about Alcuin Lodge was fabulous. The room we stayed in was lovely and big with a very nice bathroom and the whole place was spotlessly clean. There was a wide choice for breakfast answer it was delicious. Darren the owner was amazing, so helpful and thoughtful. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.
Very welcoming and helpful host, who went to considerable trouble in
making my stay as enjoyable as possible. Very nice room, clean and well
maintained. Very good wifi. The host was happy to accommodate a special
diet. Communication from the host prior to the visit was outstanding.

Made very welcome and Darren was a mind full of information when it came to York. Alcuin Lodge is a very comfortable, clean place to stay and serves a very nice breakfast too. Great location being only 10 minutes from all visitor attractions. Another plus is car parking outside the guest house with permit supplied.
The Alcuin is perfectly located just a brief stroll away from the city centre through St Mary's abbey ruins and beautiful gardens. Darren is the perfect host, eager to share his love of York and knowledge of "off the beaten path" places to see. Breakfast was excellent and a more than sufficient start to the day.
Darren was a wonderful host. Like many of the other reviewers, you could
tell that he loves York down to the books in the room we stayed in. The
house/room was very clean. We had to leave early and he was up to
see that we got something to eat. If ever have the chance to come back
would definitely stay again.
The location and the helpfulness of Darren who told us some excellent recommendations of where to go/eat/drink. He also went out of his way to make us feel welcome which extended beyond our stay through him helping us get a parking space for the Sunday after we'd checked out. Cannot fault him or the place.
Darren the owner was very friendly and gave us lots of suggestions for sightseeing and eating out. We were able to check in at 3pm and to leave our luggage after checkout on our last day. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable. If we return to York we would stay here again.

Set in a quiet neighborhood. Easy walk to city center, historical attractions, restaurants and shopping. Room was very clean, light, bright and quiet. Nice decor. We love clean and simple. Nicely updated bathroom for an older building.

Darren who runs the b&b is lovely and really helpful. Location is great, far enough out to be really quiet but a short walk in to the centre. Large comfortable room, very clean, great shower. Nice cooked breakfast. Convenient parking.

Owner was brilliant. Very welcoming and friendly. Decor was very fresh and modern considering its an old house. Bed was superb and comfortable. Great location for city with a 10 minute walk. Superb breakfast.

The TV in the room was really too small - fine if you wanted to quickly catch up on the news but not big enough to watch a film; and a wider selection of teas/coffee in the room would have been welcome. But these are minor points, and Alcuin Lodge is thoroughly recommended.

No luggage rack for suitcases. Surprised there was no full length mirror. A portable table fan would have been very helpful during the hot days/nights.
Room was very cold, which couldn't be helped as it was a really cold weekend and the building has sash windows. Sign outside the front of the room was very noisy banging in the wind all night.
Its only a minor thing but the tv in the room was tiny.also at times the room and the breakfast room were abit cold.but these are very small picking points.alcuin lodge is a brilliant place to stay.
My room at top of the house was compact especially as its a double bed. Had to stand on tiptoes to see out of high window. Wash basin was in the room but toilet and shower was down the corridor but private use only. No wifi in room as it was too far away from router. It would have been useful to know that no shoes allowed as I could have brought my slippers as feet got cold in the room and at breakfast.

shoes policy in advance so I could have brought my slippers. Also,
whilst the private bathroom was excellent, we could have been exposed to
other guests whilst making our way to it in the morning, so some sort of
dressing gown would have been appreciated.
