In beautiful, peaceful private gardens, just 5 minutes from the heart of St Austell's town centre, this small, charming family-run guest house offers free Wi-Fi and free parking. The Gables Guest House is less than 750 metres from the town centre and its banks, shops and cinema. The railway and bus station are also within easy reach. Slightly further afield, the Eden Project is only a 10-minute drive from the guest house and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are only 7 minutes away. Some of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches are also within easy reach, including Porthpean, Charlestown, Carlyon Bay, Gorran, Meavagissey and Portmellon. Parts of the building are believed to date back to the mid-19th century, including the attractive solid stone walls. All of the rooms have lovely views over the beautiful gardens, the fish pond and beyond. Each room has a flat-screen digital TV, tea/coffee and a welcome pack including fresh fruit and chocolates.

Warm friendly welcome fantastic breakfast and rooms. Nothing was to much trouble for Barbara and Michael they made us feel at home from the first moment we arrived until we left, we liked it so much we stayed an extra 2 days! the breakfast in the garden makes an extra special start to the day. the best B&B we have ever stayed in would recommend it to family and friends. Michael & Barbara were fantastic hosts, they made us feel welcome right from the start of our holiday - to the end. Barbara's breakfasts were brill, and such a lot to choose from. the four poster bed was' very' comfortable, and the garden was well looked after a real pleasure to look out onto, to sit in and enjoy.

We had breakfast on the garden which was a lovely touch... and the breakfast was lovely. The hotel is actually a lot brighter and nicer than it looks in the photos as well. The moment we arrived we felt at home. Barb &Mike are fabulous hosts. Our surroundings were comfortable and relaxing. Breakfast was a treat especially the porridge . My friends and I stayed two nights. We would definitely stay again . It was an excellent place to stay with wonderful hospitality. We were even upgraded as the only visitors so we had the gorgeous 4 poster room. Amazing accommodation , owners were so helpful and could not rate it high enough. Will be back. Owners very friendly & helpful. Fabulous breakfasts. We stayed in the ensuite double room with four poster bed & it was lovely, very clean & tastefully decorated, new bathroom. Thoroughly enjoyed it & will return. The staff were friendly, the hotel was centrally located for our needs. The facilities were clean and comfortable and breakfast was excellent. On the whole a brilliant place to stay and I would recommend it to others. The Gables Guest House is a gem of a place ideally situated for visiting the various places of interest in Cornwell. The welcome and the breakfasts are second to none. Would recommend to anyone seeking Bed and Breakfast. Warm welcome, very friendly and helpful with a good local knowledge, great atmosphere and a wonderful breakfast every morning. If you have a good appetite ask for a home made pasty. Very clean. Excellent towels. Nice shower. Room was good (four poster). there was nothing we did not like. The lack of a shaver point in the bathroom, and the light in the bedroom was not bright enough in the evening to do make up and hair, suggest a dimmer light would be good, so able to adjust according to the time of day/night. Slight lack of parking and we got the room that had a separate bathroom. Having to leave & return to reality. Shame the bathroom was on the other side of the corridor. It was all good. nothing. not really a 'not liked' - but the room we had was a bit cramped - although it was described as 'compact' - but for a couple of days it was ok!. nothing not to like. nothing (oh a bit of a walk for an evening meal but no problem really). nothing. The Poldark Room was rather small and walls are thin so you might hear your neighbors. expensive, small room, garden and room did not live up to the photos on the internet we have stayed in guest houses as good as this for half the price. Nothing. Nothing. Coolbox could do with being quiter or a bar fridge being utilised. nothing bad. Location (St Austell?). Small size of the bedroom I had booked; we were warned in advance so I was aware of the risk The coffee served at breakfast was not fresh ground which I would have preferred. I also prefer home made bread which I know is not standard so I didn't really expect it. My husband prefers cakes of soap to liquid soap - again I know this is not common but it is greener. A young couple playing music quite late in the evening disturbed us one night but we are early to bed types. 15" TV in room - far too small. £124/night B&B poor value. Breakfast basic, had to ask for grapefruit which was provided (tinned). Would have liked fish as a choice, grilled kippers etc. Only 1 juice available.
