Clean rooms and the stuff is very friendly and helpful, although not all of them speak English. The room and bathroom were generously sized and were very light, clean, quiet and comfortable with stunning views from the french windows over the vineyards and mountains beyond. Owner very charming and helpful, though beware latest check-in time is 2000hrs. We were late arriving from Santander and the ferry, but the owner had waited for us. If you arrive after he has left, there is a number to ring on a notice attached to the main door. There is no restaurant, but the owner recommended a reasonable establishment in the town

  The hotel is just about 5 minutes walk from the main square which had a great atmosphere and dozens of storks nesting on the church roofs. The hotel restaurant was good value with a 3 course menu including wine for only €10 each.

Gave us a comprehensive overview of wine tasting options in the region which was incredibly helpful and also offered to make bookings for tours. The staff was really helpful and engaged (even though Spanish is the only tool of communication, but hey, we're in Spain, right?), our room was beautiful, the dinner at Los Calaos restaurant is definitely not to be missed. Briones is a spectacular town -- picturesque with so much history and so few tourists -- and a great base to explore Rioja from. Breakfast at the hotel's nearby restaurant was great.
