We stayed here as part of large group. This place can get quite busy, but they are well organised. Food isnt great, infact the Food supervisor, was a bit on the messy side of things.That could do with improvement. The staff at the front desk were really helpful, although the one male worker, has such limited English skill, you have to ask him the same thing 4 times, and then hope, that by some chance he will understand.The other staff were very helpful, and spoke English extremely well. I stayed at the hotel in early march 2009 for business travel. I found the hotel to have all the amenities required for an upscale business hotel and the location was great. The bed was really good quality (great bedding and mattress), good lcd tv and desk area. Restaurant and bar on premise were also good. The decor is contemporary and the rooms and public spaces look recently renovated and in excellent condition. The only caution i would make is if you are sharing a room with someone....the - Kevin

Wonderful new design hotel in Hamburg - a block from the Alster in the very Hip St. Georg district. Incredible attention to design detail; wonderfully appointed rooms - with a fantastic restaurant and great roof top deck overlooking Hamburg and the Alster. A quick walk to restaurants and bars and the U-Bahn/S-Bahn at the central station. A wonderful place to stay in Hamburg! - Clark

I spent 24 hours at this Sofitel property in April 2009 as I waited for a cruise ship departure from the nearby Hamburg Cruise Center. It compares very well to any large hotel chain both in appointments of the rooms and first rate service by its English speaking staff. The large bed, actually two twins blended together, with separate duvets was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large for the price of the room (US$225) with both a large shower and a bathtub. My boyfriend and I stayed at Eleazar Novum for 3 nights during October. We both found the hotel very nice and our room was quite comfortable. It was new, clean and quiet. The breakfast was very good and and was very varied. The location is perfect - 200m from the central station. On the other side of the station you reach the shopping area and by walking 5 minutes you reach the townhall and Alster area. The staff was very polite and helpfull. This hotel is located west of the city center but close to a metro station (1-2 blocks). The area to the west contains many popular bars and restaurants, and is one of the "hip" areas of Hamburg according to a trusted local. The price is good and the suite containing a combined bar/living area and bedroom was larger than expected. The clerks at the desk were helpful and fluent in English. A much better value than more expensive hotels located closer to the river. - Damien

I was staying at the Best Western St. Raphael in Hamburg during my visit for Cebit 2008. Frankly speaking the rooms looked much better and spacious on the website (through which we made the booking). Main issue was that the rooms were very small. I have never stayed in such a small room. One other downside was the fact that one could hear and feel the subway when it passed. I assume this is an issue that all buildings face around the central train station so I can't really blame the hotel - Marie

I stayed at the Grand Elysee because of its proximity to the Hamburg congress centre and I was impressed in every way. The room was very spacious, bright and elegant. The beds must have been new and very very comfortable. There is free cable internet and a nice size desk, which is very convenient if you're there on a work trip. The spa was also nice, it's great being able to swim a few lenghts in the pool after a long day. The buffet breakfast is amazing - an endless selection of warm and c - David

This hotel was VERY clean with comfortable beds and spacious rooms! The breakfast was included in our rate & was YUMMMMMY! I would definitely stay here again! There is a train stop at the corner that takes you directly to the city center in 10 minutes! The only down side is the internet is not included, you must pay for WLAN access - Shaun

It's been quite a while since the last time I've stayed here, however I wanted to praise this hotel, as it has been a really pleasurable experience back in August 2008. The hotel is just a short taxi ride from the "Hauptbahnhof" and only a short walk from the city center. It's situated along a busy street, but even when you have a room facing the lake (which I did) you're not at all disturbed. The hotel staff is excellent, they treated us like we were the royals themselves, from the - Derek
