  The very warm welcome, the staff could not be more helpful, the location was relaxed and quiet but perfect by the ferry. The continental breakfast with its vast array of fresh food was the best I have ever had and I visit many hotels in many countries. The cooked breakfast was excellent too. The room was spacious and very well equipped The whole ... co mówią ludzie » experience was lovely,the lodge was very good value and should be rated at least 8.5 - Linda, Alfie and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Their knowledge of the area helped us find our way around Orkney. The lodge was immaculate and our room was first class with a lovely view. We chose continental breakfast, great selection of cereal, fruit etc. Houton Bay Lodge was our favourite accommodation during our holiday. Value for money.

  I have been visiting Orkney for the past 18 years and stayed in most of the hotels in Kirkwall, but for the past few years I have chosen the Ayre. Although Orkney is like going back in time - but only in a good way - this hotel offers very comfortable and spacious modern rooms and fine dining, using local produce which is always good. Great location in a small town very near the heart of neolithic Orkney - just a few miles to the major sites which let you be flexible in avoiding the tour buses. The hotel is in an ideal central location in a quiet village, is easy to find and has ample parking spaces. I wanted a relaxing holiday and this is exactly what I got.
