Me, my hubby and 2 year old son had a fantastic stay @ the Coastlands on the ridge hotel. The hotel and rooms (big wow) are elegant and beautifully decorated (we had deluxe room) plus the view from the balcony looking out over durban is stunning. The staff were absolutely wonderful with my son, friendly and always helpfull especially @ reception (tony cele god bless you) and the dining area (the lady @ the entrance to the hotels dining area always warm, friendly and welcoming). We were treated.

Even the security person in the car park wanted to do something to please.The young people in the reception and dining room were excellent. Everything was super!!The staff,the attendant at reception was so warm and welcoming, even the other visitors along the way were so friendly and happy showing this hotel really is comfortable. The breakfast was also wonderful. it was wonderful experience,the youngest staff was Mr.Tony,what a wonderful person,cooperative and active one.if hotel is equiped with Gym.it will be a real return of money one spends..Kifayat Malick. There was a mistake with our booking but the staff on duty sorted it out efficiently and we ended up staying in a delux suite. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Some days the buffet was delicious. The hotel itself is very cozy. The check in was smooth, service and buffet breakfast was excellent. I would recommend this facility. Location. Suggestions: Reception area @ the spa could be more welcoming as well as the dining area of the spa could be moved to a more suitable spot away from the entrance/door. Nothing in particular. I was expecting to find the bathroom optional with a shower and a Tub, some of us enjoy soaking themselves in a tub, whilst relaxing in some oils and a bubbly bath. No Gym...?. Mix up with our booking, hotel was over booked. My room was not properly cleaned, the roof was leaking, the cooler fridge was not cooling but it was warming, the basin stopper was not working, and on my last day, I did not take a shower as the water was cold. I could not even wash using the wash basin as the stopper was not working. no everything was up to excellence. linen in restaurant a little shabby. The bathrooms needs more attention when being cleaned. No Gym in hotel. The room, it was difficult to locate the switch for the bedside lamps, switches for the above down lighters where on the headboard. No switch for the bedside lamp. Everything was adequate. Delayed cleaning of room. Could not get hold of house keeping and receptionist was rude over phone becasue we called twice for house keeping. Not enough towels. Water in shower is not hot. Did not want us to check out after 11 even though letsbookhotel.com had 11-12. But when we checked out they permitted another guest to leave at 12. The Waiters at the Restaurant had a dont care attitude. None of them smiled or even greeted us over our 2 night stay. the rooms are cold, poor pool facilities. not being given the choice to choose the hotel room. Breakfast closing too early on weekends. 1lift 4 all floors. N/a. There where no faceclothes in the bathrooms my online booking was not picked up at the hotel even with a reference number. The television was not working.so maintenance needs to gear up. Breakfast was good. The balcony was dirty and had used matches lying around. The carpets need some attention!. The room safe was not working I complained about it but nothing was done to repair it!. Tv channels some were not accessable bad attitude frm a lady who ws cleaning oour room she was not friendly at all on her facial. Needs to be renovated doors make a noise shower takes ages to get hot maids don't clean properly fridges don't work. Food sucks in terms of bf...its location dosent have any good view. Cold water, after complaining and they said it would be sorted out. More cold water. I think room was not prepped enough. staff kept on forgetting to follow up on maintenance issues - tv remote not working, no working heater, reception didn't answer when tried to call. We had no view, the room was smaller than expected and we had to keep calling reception for things like the tv remote, the room service menu, a blanket and so on. Not needed if things were just readily available. The laundry is extremely rude. Bath tub had a funny shower, not suitable for big size people. Lighting system was intricate and dull. Air conditioner was on but room was still very hot. we did not have hot water in our room and the shower door was missing. We had to be moved to another room the next day, creating an inconvenience because we have a 13 month old baby. staff attitude,lack of organization and professionalism. Two single beds for a married couple. I expected a view of Durban as shown in the pictures, not of the driveway. They first put us in a standard room although we had paid for a deluxe room and only changed the room after we complained. On our second day their there was no hot water right till the time we checked out. It took forever to get through to anyone to report it and as no one even bothered to show up we eventually had a lukewarm shower and left. Unfriendly staff at reception. No knowledge of how to locate flights on the internet. After telling them how to, I am still waiting on them to contact me with the info!!! My room was not up to standard - buzzing sound when lights are on (was told that it is coming from the electrical box above the cupboard which i pointed the guy to!) Lights on the balcony was not working. The wires and the unit was left open in the flower box. There was no hot water, only warm. When I got out of the shower, I was cold. I requested that the beds be converted from twin to double, this was not done even though after my email request it was confirmed that this was the case. I was put in a family room, with an adjoining door and could hear everything going on in the next room which was unpleasant. The air-conditioning did not seem to work in the first room and in the second room we were moved to. There was no hot water and we had to request it be sorted out. 1. No Parking when functions are held 2. Were told we were not allowed to charge tea to our room as we had no credit although the room was guaranteed by credit card. Even thought the first two days we were told the tea and coffee was included in the room rate. 3. Drainage in bathroom is terrible.
