Huys van Leyden is an intimate boutique hotel set in the historic centre of Leiden, right next to the Oude Singel canal. Free use of the spa and sauna is offered. This heritage-listed property dating from 1611 includes many original features and offers a shuttle service from/to Schiphol Airport and Leiden Central Station and has its own private parking. Huys van Leyden offers 7 hotel rooms as well as a loft in a nearby building (50 metres). All of the rooms are unique in layout and furnishings. The wooden-floored rooms are decorated with bright colours and have box-spring beds. They have a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a tea/coffee maker and a minibar. The rooms can only be reached by stairs! There is no lift. In addition to the à la carte and buffet breakfast, guests can also enjoy dinner, afternoon tea or a private boat trip on the canals. These services can only be booked at the hotel. The Pieterskerk is just 900 metres on foot. Leiden’s central train station is 1.2 km away. The old town with its museums and the Castle ‘de Burcht’ are a 5-minute walk away.

Lovely room, comfortable beds, nespresso machine was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good with a choice of cooked dishes and a cold buffet. The spa had just opened but we had forgotten our swim suits. Location was very good. Easy stroll to shops and restaurants and the station was a 15 min stroll along the canal, or you can catch the bus from round the corner. Gaston and the other staff were wonderful - nothing was too much trouble. We used their parking at a cost of 12 euros per night.

This was especially true when I caught "Dutch Flu" and they let us stay in the room for an extra 2 hrs until it was time to go to the Airport - Gaston's suggestion. Also Gaston's mum who runs a shuttle service to the Airport deserves a positive mention. Thanks again. What a wonderful place this is. We loved the room at the back of the hotel on two floors with a door to the large roof terrace. All the staff are so kind and helpful. Breakfast is in a beautiful room facing one of Leiden's many canals. The location is marvellously quiet but all the facilities of this compact city are but a short walk away. We stayed on the room on the first floor, with our window looking out to the canal. It was the perfect experience. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Parking was convenient as public lots are available just outside the house. We could see our car from our room and also from the breakfast hall. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Very tastefully designed and appointed room in a hotel coverted from an old Flemish-style house. It is quite yet coveniently located by a canal close to the city centre. Lovely breakfast. We spent in Huys van Leyden two nights out of our 20years anniversary wedding tour and enjoyed it very much. Very friendly and hospitale owner, who cooked us delicious breakfasts and made us feel like home. I loved that the hotel was close enough to everything, but just far away enough to have a quite end of day. The view from the loft was amazing and it was a perfect home away from home when we were there. My room was delightful and very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to help with special requests. Their excellent service was maintained throughout my stay. My friends and I much appreciated the warm welcome, the beautiful rooms (all beautifully renovated and clean) and the wonderful breakfast. All in all a great experience!. The staff were exceptional, the room outstanding and the dinner and breakfast delicious. The decor is wonderful and the in room facilities remarkable at the price. A bit in a distance from the center of the town if working by foot. Ok if you rent a bike though. Birds on the water might get really noisy during early mornings...:). Nothing. I loved everything and even if I had to pick on one thing...it might be the stairs to the loft (they are vertical...no doubt a lot of houses were built like that) but even then...it gave me a work out...so...cant complain!. No problems at all over a 5 night stay. I liked everything. Bathroom lacked space and shelf space (we have lots of toiletries!) Coffee at breakfast was stewed. Nothing. Tea selection (in the room and at breakfast) was strange - no green or herbal tea. Also serving staff at the breakfast was very "new", so there were mistakes from them in not bringing what asked. Long walk from Station. its a small bed and breakfast which is charming although maybe restrictive if you are looking for a hotel type accommodation. Nothing to dislike. I was there the evening of storm Xaver, my room was under the roof, wind was blowing inside the room, from windows and maybe through the roof too, and, for this reason was quite cold too. Owner said house is 400 years old..... I assume same room, without any storm, is just fine. Owner, though, should review at least windows to be air-tight.
