Arrived to find they were not taking credit cards although they did take a cheque. The restaraunt advertised they specialised in "Old English Breeds", when we stayed there was no meat options only fowl and vegetarian options, this was dissappointing as it was a reason for booking the hotel.

The hotel's decor is beautiful. The room was very comfortable. The attention to detail was excellent. The staff were friendly and courteous. Marmadukes is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac but in easy walking distance of the city walls.

A friends bedroom was ridiculously hot, even when it was -1 outside, andthey couldn't seem to change that. They had to have all the windowsopen, which seems ridiculous, and a big waste of energy.

The hotel room was very olde worlde which made it feel more like staying in a stately home than a hotel which is a definite plus point - it is a very welcoming and unique experience staying here.
We were not made aware that there was building work going on in the gardens and that the gardens were not in use as well as the sauna and hot tub facilities. This was a disappointment.

bath shower combination did not work as nowhere to hang shower so many people use a proper shower now days. room felt incomplete.

A quite, clean and comfortable hotel with friendly staff. We only atesupper once at the hotel during our stay which we thoroughly enjoyed andfelt that the food and preparation was of a high standard.
We were advised that a conference was to be held on one morning duringour stay, however we were only notified early on the morning via a noteunder our door, which meant breakfast was eaten in a public thoroughfareduring preparation (of what would normally be the breakfast room) andarrival of those attending the conference. No provision of plates,cutlery etc meant we had to ask for such items.
