A 100-year old Japanese townhouse, cosy inn Gion Morisyo features Japanese-style accommodation, free Wi-Fi and a garden. It's a 5-minute walk from both the Yasaka Jinja Shrine and the Kodai-ji temple.
Air-conditioned rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor, a low table and seating cushions. Yukata robes and a thermos with green tea are provided, and guests sleep in traditional futon bedding on the tatami. A shared bathroom is for private use, and comes with a bathtub made of cypress wood.
Gion Morisyo is a 5-minute walk from Kennin-ji Temple, and a 20-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple. From Kyoto Station it's a 20-minute bus ride and 3-minute walk from the bus stop.
Famous novelist Junichiro Tanizaki spent lots of time at Morisyo Gion, calling it the Flowers Inn. The hotel is completely non-smoking, and it has a curfew at 23:00.
Guests with a breakfast-inclusive rate can enjoy Japanese-style breakfast at the dining area.

Since it is a very small hotel, we had the pleasure to get to know the owner (they are really lovely) and also the other guests. Having breakfast together, we felt at home and we also exchanged interesting travel information and insights with others too.
Staying at this hotel gave us a great taste of living in a old Japanese house rather than staying in a 'hotel' while being in a very convenient location for visiting great temples on foot.
Visiting in winter, it was cold (and old Japanese hous. alle vurderinger »
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and this wonderful place overwelmed our expectations. We've read delighted feedbacks from previous travellers at letsbookhotel.com and we can confirm they are fully true. Location is good and close to main attractions in this district. The ryokan itself is such a beautiful place and gives a great opportunity to feel the atmosphere of historical place and traditional japanese home the same time. Owners are friendly, warm people. They helped to solve any ques.
We had an amazing time staying at Gion Morisyo. Owners were very friendly, tolerant and helpful in all the aspects that could be hard to grasp if you're a gaijin.
Service was excellent in every aspekt. Also the location of the ryokan is one of the best if you enjoy historical Kyoto. Many attractions are in a walking distance. At the same time place is very quiet and homelike.
Also there's wi-fi avalible that's so convenient it's hard to overstate.
Thanks a lot to the owners for the amazing week.
The friendliness of my hosts was without fault,I was looked after like royalty and made to feel very welcome. The quality of service I received was beyond reproach even down to advising me on places i could visit but also providing me with the literature and advice on what transport I should take to visit those sites.
I would happily recommend this establishment to anyone else looking for an authentic ryokan experience.
This Ryokan is owned by the Morita family. The owner speaks fluent German, the son is an amazing guitarist and together with the mom, i cannot even think of a single flaw to their service... it is that good.
Fantastic location; this Ryokan is tucked away in a very quaint neighborhood. Right next to some of the best Shrines and temples yet 5 minutes walk from the shopping belt.
We find our hosts warm, professional, helpful and very sympathetic. The
house embodies the core of Japanese experience. It' is beautifully
located in old part of the city ( very quiet!)and fantastically taken
care off. Our hosts prepare delicious Japanese style breakfast in a room
with a view to the inner court garden. We would (and will!)definitely
reserve there next time.
The couple who run it are so friendly and helpful, and their English is good. The location is superb, walkable to many great sites and to public transportation (which they'll help you figure out). The ryokan experience is very nice, and the rooms and bathrooms are clean and comfortable. (Shared bathroom, but small place so that was not a problem.).
Great Riokan. Exquisite family. Excellent Japanese breakfast. Close to
Temples (Chion-In, Kiyomizu Dera...) and downtown (Gion). My room had a
spacious living area, comfortable futon, facing into a beautiful garden.
It was been three unforgettable days. As a European it was an experience
to be done to learn the real Japanese culture!!.
Service received from the owner of Gion Morison Mr. Morita Yasuhiro and his wife Kayoka was fantastic. We were so much appreciated for their caring and concerns right from 1st day till end of our stay. I strongly recommend to everyone who visits Kyoto should put Gion Morison in your 1st choice of selection.
Excellent location, convenient to surround temples; extremely friendly host, kindly looking after young kids, nice breakfast not only a food but also art; traditional japanese building. I like this place. Best Best Best!!! =D.

We had a fantastic time at Gion Morisyo - we were welcommed very warmly and Kaiyoko and her husband went out of their way to make us welcome.
Our hosts were so pleasant and helpful. They even recommended and set up a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant. We loved our stay here.
Nice breakfast. Very friendly and helpful host, but the
accuracy/quality of the information provided was somewhat lacking.
