Montecarlo is a charming walled village with a number of very good restaurants. One fine dining restaurant is in the Michelin guide, the Pizzeria on the terrace overlooking the countryside is great and so is the little Trattoria. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived and the hosts were really helpful. The room was great, furnishings are classic and there are antique pieces in the various public rooms, we also liked the artistic touches with flowers and furnishings painted onto walls.

wonderful food in the restaurant. The waiters are happy to explain the
menu in good English. The location is also good, about 10 km from Lucca,
very near Montecarlo (a very small city). To Florence we went by train
from Altopascio. Free parking, 13 eur pp by train, approx 1,5 hrs and
you re in the centre of the city. Pisa is an about 45 minutes drive, as
well as the beach.
