We are a couple in our thirties used to backpacking, but by now we stay in double rooms (in hostels around the world) when we travel. This place is a great backpackersshack with a good atmosphere!

One of the best stays at the Glaciers. Even this is a hostel, it has private rooms which have everything you need. The owners cook everyday breakfast in the morning, a hot soup in the afternoon and occasionally barbecue and wine complimentary for the guests. A definitive great value for money.

Good location, although if it had been a bit off the road I would have given it an "excellent" rating. Very comfortable, especially well equipped room, close to Franz Josef. The management was extremely helpful and welcoming!

Staff was super at providing suggestions for walks. The lady was like a mom away from home. Shared bathroom on second floor was very clean but the dining room was not so clean. You need a car for Akorito and the Glacier unless you are willing to walk a long way. We had one! -

Bed was extremely comfortable and huge! Having the tv was a nice luxury
and sofa was very comfortable. Room and bathroom were both extremely
clean. The balcony would have been an excellent addition if it
hadn't rained whilst we were there - it was impossible for us to see
the view because of the cloud but I'm sure it is amazing! Free Wifi
was a real bonus and the guy who runs the motel cannot do enough to

The staff/owner was the nicest lady we met on our entire trip. When she found out it was our honeymoon she put us in the nicest chalet away from everyone, with the best view of the mountains. She also called into the restaurant we were going to and bought us dessert! The best part though was that she was so helpful (but not in an overbearing way).

Everything, I honestly can't say enough! We loved our stay and will definitely return to JAG escape, Jo was so friendly, she had outstanding local knowledge and we were kept well informed of the Haast Pass closure information. The included breakfast was exceptional and had everything you could possible want. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable, I could have stayed forever! This is a very well run, comfortable motel with facilities more modern than most NZ motels I have been to. Management are very helpful with ideas for visiting the area and will book trips such as walks on the glaciers. All round excellent motel in a pleasant town. -

Very large room with super comfortable bed. very quiet position and yet so close to everything. Best night's sleep I've had for a long time. Everything spotless and very generous supply of coffee/ tea, soap etc. Proprietors very friendly and helpful. Covered parking for our car. Everything was modern and worked well. -

Ten Cottages was near all the amenities in Franz Josef, just a walk away. The cottage was clean and well appointed. The Owners were very friendly and helpful.There was a problem with the Internet, but Rosemary was trying to get it sorted. -

It was quit nice on freezing rainy day to find such a nice, comfort, full equipt place to stay. The hotel is also very near by everything regard that this is such a small town. The reception guy was very nice and helpful. He provided all needed information include the road condition to our next day trip too. Many thanks to him. I totally recommen

Very fiendly staff and excellent facilities. Very spacious room with cooking facilities. Delightful bathroom. Good welcome booklet with nearby restaurant menus/ideas of things to do even when raining!!Could not fing anything negative to say at all. USA motels please take note.
