  This is the second time that I have stayed at the Toyoko Shijo Karasuma. The location is excellent with buses and a subway line next door, Nishiki market very near, and proximity to the most popular tourist areas of Kyoto.   The staff and facilities far exceeded my expectation for a guesthouse. Beds and furniture seemed new and clean. The bathrooms were clean and had excellent water pressure. The staff was friendly and remembered guests by name. I felt a sense of welcome every time I walked the the door. I highly recommend this hotels for backpackers, groups on a budget, or someone visiting Kyoto for a few days - A recommendable guesthouse for bagpackers! It's clean, friendly and easy to move around Kyoto. 1) The location was easy to get along the eastern part of Kyoto - very close to Kyomizudera, quite close to Gion. 2) The staffs there are really friendly and fun to be with. 3) Toilets and Showers are clean. Liked that there were many basins outside the shower booths (door closed) so that many people can enter at a time. 4) Each beds are with curtains and was clean.

  Excellent central location in Gion. The taxi driver from Kyoto station was not familiar with the hotel or its location. When drivers don't know a destination, they can locate it by calling the hotel so make sure you have the phone number handy.   This hotel is a lovely new hotel within walking distance of a subway and not that far from the main Kyoto Station. I particularly loved the large bathroom- with a separate wet room- in our double room (large bathrooms in most Japanese hotels are a rarity). Lots of eateries & cafés close by. It is just a 3* hotel however easily can be recognized as 4*. The staff is friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel very much.
