This hotel was one of the early grand hotels (1930s-1950s) in Shenyang. It has been remodeled. The rooms have been modestly updated with new beds, bedding and some furniture updates. The room I had included a sitting area. Views were questionable -- too many high-rises for anything scenic. The front desk and lobby staff were exceptional. Prompt, courteous, and helpful. Everything that would be expected at a classic hotel. For reasonable quick Chinese food, there are a couple of places right around the corner. Also there's a KFC and Starbucks. In the other direction, there are some small shops, a fruit stand right across the street, and other restaurants. Everything in easy walking distance. The Black Swan Bakery ... just a couple doors down from the Starbucks .. has excellent chocolates and pastries. Huge, really huge, wedding cakes in the window. Can't miss it.

The second floor restaurant only serves "hot pot." The bar on the 5th floor is deserted during the day. At night it seems to be catering to more of a "gentleman's club" crowd than a hotel bar. Questionable patrons in the elevator.
