The location is terrific, the rooms are clean and (relatively) large, the breakfast is ample, the aesthetic is bright and fun. But the single biggest selling point here is the staff. Overwhelmingly friendly, courteous, responsive, and genuine. That's how you run a business.
The staff were so helpful, very entertaining, with a great welcome on arrival. The atmosphere was so comfortable, and informal. Good breakfast and access to kitchen area for coffee, cookies etc. Great location, and all around - pretty cool. See you again next time in NYC Jay.
The room was small......that's Manhattan! Everything else more than compensated for this though.
The service was impeccable and the staff were extremely friendly; especially Lewis! We were on the top floor in a suite and with no lift we had to walk, it didn't really bother us that much to be honest, It felt like a good bit of exercise after the owners delicious home made cakes!! The whole experience was fantastic and I'd reccomend the Chelsea Pines to anyone. Breakfast and delicious snacks throughout the day were the icing on the cake..!
I received a very warm and friendly welcome from Ana in the Chelsea Pines Inn, and all the staff there were charming and lovely throughout my short stay. The location of this Inn is excellent - a few steps away from an underground station, Chelsea Market and the High Line. Small touches like complimentary water and printing facilities makes Chelsea Pines Inn compare favourably to more upscale places I stayed in ny (where they were charging $8 for a small bottle of water!).
As the price reflects - you will not be staying in a high-end stylish hotel, but it is a clean, comfortable, pleasant spot with its own style and I would recommend it.
For New York, it was worth it. The hotel tries really hard. The breakfast was good. The cat was homey.
Staff was helpful, but we had to wait to check in for at least10 minutes because they were chatting with another guest about what to do in the neighborhood, etc.

I stayed a week in Chelsea Pines Inn in late September, 2013. It was my first time in nyc and I'm glad I managed to find such a gem. The staff are exceptionally kind and friendly. I was very happy with my room and the breakfast every morning was lovely. The subway is just yards from the hotel.

5 flights of stairs - had we seen that this is a 'walk up' hotel we would have gone elsewhere - after a day (& evening) walking around the sights we could have done without the 100+ stairs upto our room.

The staff was more than helpful. On our last morning, when running to the car to grab something, realized it had been towed!! The front desk helped calm us down, while providing instructions and directions on how to find our car. Kept our room for us until we were able to get it and return. The room was extra spacious and comfortable. The largest room we have stayed in, in the city so far. The location is a very easy walk to Greenwich Village for bars or food. Plenty to do right around the hotel, just a very short walk to the highline. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, I know we will be staying there again for sure.

4 flights of stairs to the room. Check which level and how old you are as the 5th floor was a workout. Room was compact but everything was there.

The staff was INCREDIBLE (knowledgable, helpful, warm, funny), the decor was lovely with great attention to detail, the location cannot be beat - walking distance to 3 different subway stations and steps from Chelsea Market, the Meat Packing District, and the East Village.

Guests should be warned that there is no elevator. Stairs are steep and uncarpeted--a little rough for seniors!

We liked the staff, the location, the friendliness, the professionalism of the staff, the help and advice, in fact we liked everything about this hotel. It is in our view an absolute gem. Its also very well located and its quiet at night. We had a great stay and will use Chelsea Pines again.

CPI welcomes you the moment you arrive and makes you feel special. Jay and the team are always courteous and obliging. The decor and movie posters are terrific. I enjoyed the quick and tasty breakfast each morning and the central location. Only 100 yards from subway ... What more would you want!

This was the friendliest and most pleasant place I have stayed in NYC. Staff was delightful; the decor charming; and so many small touches made our stay a pleasure.
The only downside is the lack of an elevator -- not a problem for us; but it could be for some.

Clean room,comfortable services, near from subway station. Then near from Chelsea market, I could enjoy eating and shopping. Taking walk 15 min, there are art gallery districtions. So nice.

Loved the decor in the bathroom. Nice , spacious shower . Bed very comfortable. Also loved the kitchenette area which leads to a sunroom, and then garden area. All spaces have cafe tables. Staff friendly and helpful.
The staff were uniformly excellent providing a personal touch and did everything they could to help. The proprietors provided very useful information on places to visit and eat in New York. The hotel is quirky with a unique personality which was great to see. The location is great.
