Avignone Alberghi

I booked a double bed room for 60 Euro/ night during a special promotion. The room is big with kitchen, refrigerator, cook set, LCD TV...It is out of my expectation to get such a well-equipped room with this price. Besides, this hotel is easily accessible. 5-min walk from TGV station and shuttle bus runs between city centre and hotel every 20 mins. Supermarket is 10-min walk from the hotel. In my opinion, this hotel is highly recommended. - John

This is a standard motel type hotel, but comfortable with friendly English speaking staff and air conditioning that works. The pool is superb.and after a hot day trudging around Avignon, what better than to come back to your hotel and relax in and around the pool. At first, the surroundings look a bit dodgy and the car park is gated but we always felt secure. It is on a busy crossroads and the most common sound is the two tone emergency sirens. Everyone knows that the Holiday Inn Express is generally a no-frills business hotel, but we were blown away by the fantastic service and friendly staff. It almost felt like we were in a 5-star hotel. Reception was very friendly and knowledgeable, good tips about the city of Avignon and best of all had printed bus timetables handly! If you're coming in by train, it's conveniently located about 800m from the Avignon TGV station (15 min walk with luggage), or it's right on the Avignon City Expre - Patricia

When we arrived at the hotel, our room was not ready (we were early) and were told to come back later. We went and had a great lunch and walked around the city of Avignon. When we returned, our room was still not ready, so we were upgraded to a Superior room. And was it superior! Our room had a king sized bed with big fluffy pillows. We stayed in the Hotel Danieli during the Avignon Theatre Festival during July, so I understand that the city was particularly crowded. However, I cannot impress upon you just how bad the noise issue was for us in our 3rd floor room. There is no air conditioning in the rooms so we were forced to open the windows for air. It sounded like the street noise (autos, motorbikes, talking pedestrians, restaurant patrons) was literally in our room! I am not exaggerating when I say that I did not sleep a - Neil

What a great hotel - we traveled throughout provence and this was by far our favorite place. The location was perfect - everything is in walking distance and since the rooms face a peaceful courtyard, it was very quiet. we checked in to the modern wing of the building but moved to the "older" wing which is so charming and has nicer bathrooms. the colors were very contemporary and the room was super-comfortable. parking was easy. - Tom

Hard to find, even if the GPS brought us in the right place. Bumpy pavement at the entry, so take care if you have a low car. Large parking space (unreal for France) and free (more unreal)! The staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is only one floor and looks like it had been refurbished in the 1980's. It is clean, although, and for spending one night it would be a good choice for everyone driving a car. We found this hotel by chance whilst driving through Avignon. The rates were a bit more expensive than we would have paid, but it was well worth it. We got upgraded as they weren't very busy that night and can say that the room was very pleasant, spacious and had a nice view over the square. The bathroom was very spacious and we had plenty of hot water. The restaurants are all within walking distance as is the palais des papes. We stayed here at quite short notice – telephoned on the day and they had a vacancy. We were offered a superior room or a junior suite, and on opting for the room found ourselves given the suite anyway when we arrived. Our welcome was fine and they clearly appreciated our poor French – it was obvious that other visitors who adopted a loud, arrogant manner (US rather than English for a change) were not appreciated, and why should they be!
