Really friendly, traditional hotel but with the BEST breakfast and a really nice bar/restaurant. The swimming pool is really great too - ideal!

From arrival with the pleasant greeting from manager Chris, who checked and confirmed our room was ready prior to advertised check in and carried our bags to room. Excellent service, quality and quantity of food in restaurant. Free wifi in all areas of hotel and room. large free car park and walking distance from city centre. Breakfast cooked to order not self service.

A bit of a steep charge for morning papers (£2.20 for a Daily Mail retailing at 60 pence)
We received a very friendly welcome from the staff. The room was clean and spacious with plenty of tea, coffee etc. A very enjoyable stay and would definately return. There was a very nice Italian restaurant within easy walking distance if you dont want to walk all the way into York in the evening.

For the money it had free parking, was a 20 minute walk from the bridge to the centre, a cooked breakfast, steam room and pool, a fire, the rooms were warm and quiet.. it wasn't brand new and shiny, so pay your money and make your choice.

The relaxed, friendly and extremely efficient staff.
I felt the evening menu was a bit to "rich" which is really down to taste and may suit the majority of residents. An alternative bar "snack type" option would be good.

Room was a fair size with Tea & Coffee facilities available in room. Refreshment top up's at reception readily available and great idea. Good location, room (25) was situated at side of hotel so no road noise. Pleasant 15 min stroll into centre of York with a few restaurants en route if preferred. Staff extremely pleasant, especially Chris on Reception desk - cheeky Yorkshire chappy with welcoming manner.

Cant possibly understand when the hotel had only a few guests why they were told on arrival at 2-40pm that their room wasn't ready .This is NOT the way to welcome guests after a fairly long journey,it does not set the right tone

My only fault would be could only get one channel on tv but this was not a massive problem to me.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was served and freshly cooked to your order. No going up to a buffet breakfast. The pool was a good size. Free car parking was a bonus and there was a bus stop practically outside.

Generous room size Well appointed with three boys, they all had their own beds As a family of 5 we were in one room, the boys were in a separate room within our room Staff were excellent, friendly, helpful Good size, secure carpark Pool was clean and excellent facility, especially in poor weather, towels provided Ensuite was good sized, we have had some tiny ones in the past We were able to open the windows to control temperature, fresh air Breakfast was excellent, good choice and flexible Evening menu provided good options, including kids menu Free wi-fi

I liked the room, which was very comfortable. I really enjoyed the swimming pool - that's why I stayed at this hotel again. I had the dinner, which was really delicious. The breakfast is good too, with wide choice of dishes. Everyone was very friendly also.

It being an old building it does suffer from the squeeky floorboards syndrome, and also my room had a layer of dust ( on the bedside lamp and table! ) but this is minor and didn't detract from an enjoyable two day stay.
We had no problems. Great location, clean and comfortable. Friendly, helpful staff. Meals were great. Would recommend it. Great parking.
