Joyce one of the owners couldn't do enough for us Both Mark and Joyce were extremely friendly and helpful The location is excellent you can park your car and walk everywhere. There was a large choice for breakfast all freshly cooked. We had a front room No 4 at the top of the house We didn't open the windows because it was on the street but the double glazing is excellent as I am a very light sleeper Joyce provided us with a fan which was great. Whilst I agree that it isn't a boutique hotel. kaikki arvostelut »
Location of Gillygate was perfect for our brief stay. The hosts were very, very knowledgeable and helpful. They made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Decor was lovely and rooms were clean and pleasant to spend time in. There were some lovely touches in the decor; I loved finding the hairdryer in a beautiful Chinese style silk bag; plan to recommend Gillygate to friends planning to visit York. Mark is very well versed in York history, and shared some of it with us. He also recommende.
We really loved staying at Gillygate Guest House; the owners, Mark and Joyce were very welcoming and helpful. We were on a mother and young adult daughter trip, and everything was just right for us. They made a delicious and hearty breakfast, and there were other options too for lighter fare if that is your wish. The bed was so comfortable!! and the room was clean, spacious and had lovely décor. The bathroom was a little small, but we had no problem at all with that, it was completely suffici.
Mark was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. This was by far the nicest place to come back to after a day of sightseeing. They were always full of advice and conversation- really felt like a 'home' rather than a hotel. The attic room was full of charm and it was so nice to have the floor to yourself. Breakfast was great. Would definitely recommend it to others and hope to return one day :).
Fabulous location, right in the heart of York. The on-site parking is a real plus too, we just parked the car and forgot about it for the duration of our stay. The house has undergone a beautiful renovation, very comfortably furnished and Mark and Joyce are wonderful, welcoming hosts. Wouldn't hesitate to return and recommend to others.
I stay in quite few B&B and large hotels and have a sauasage scale. You can usually judge a B&b by the quality of the sausage. A cheap sausage, indicates that they are cutting corners to save money. The sauagae for breakfast here was excellent. Satff also really helpful and friendly. Excellent location for teh middle of York.
Joyce and Mark made us feel very welcome. Joyce provided us with maps and Mark helped me park the car! I could never have done it myself, cheers! Gillygate has the best location for visiting York as it is so close to the Minster and the city walls. To top it all we had kippers for breakfast - what more could one ask for?.
Gillygate is great value for money, a stone's throw from York Minster. Perfect location, Mark & Joyce were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. I'd stay there again. My room was small, but since I was only there to sleep, that really wasn't an issue for me although it might be for some.
Mark was a wonderful proprietor. He parked our car safely, took our bags up two flights of stairs and gave us great tips for eating out. The room was lovely and spacious and the breakfast was delicious. I'm not a bacon and eggs fan so the fruit and yogurt was well received. And the location is perfect!.
The owners were very and helpful and did their best to answer any queries and travel questions and also the breakfasts were delicious. The rooms were clean and bedding fresh. If by chance they had to go out they always made it known and left a telephone number to be contacted in case of any emergency.
The situation is very good in that the City Gate is just a few minutes walk away. There is parking for 4 cars although best to leave keys with mark as moving cars about to get out is necessary. The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners Mark and Joyce are very friendly and helpful.
Proprietor was very helpful. Allowed us to store bags and go sightseeing when we arrived prior to normal checkin time (and when we wanted to leave a couple of hours after checkout time) and he carried our luggage up (and down) the flight of stairs to our room. Great place to stay.
For us this was the best room we had on a 2 week stay in England.
This guest house was ideally located for sightseeing in York. It was just outside the city walls. The room was spacious compared to the other rooms we had in England. The owners were very helpful and friendly.
A warm welcome, we even received a phone call as we were running late to check we were okay. Large room. even with additional bed, with good sized en-suite. Our room was at the back so even though on one of the busy central roads it was very quiet. Fantastic central location.
Mark and Joyce were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The guest house very warm and welcoming. Great breakfast. The location is fantastic, with bars and restaurants within walking distance. We will definitely be returning to Gillygate when we visit York again!.
THe owners are lovely. They could not do enough and they made us very welcome. Simply the best B&B I have ever stayed in. They room was clean and well decorated and the breakfast lovely. The location is perect on gillygate, right next to the minster. Fantastic!.
The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Car Parking on site.
Allergy free room. Cleanliness. Delightful breakfast with good choices.
Excellent location for the city centre. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and
found the guest house was a relaxing place to stay.
we liked everything about the hotel, the owners were very welcoming and gave us information on were we wanted to go, the room was nice and clean, the location is close to everything so wasn't far to walk back too, we will definitely be returning in the future.
This is a first-class guest house, run by a helpful and obliging couple. It is close to York centre and has parking spaces. It is lovely, modern, clean, tidy and the breakfast was great. I would recommend it to anyone and will definitely stay there again.
Just about everything! Mark and Joyce were wonderful hosts, prepared to do anything the guests needed. (Mark even made porridge for me although it was not actually on the menu-- and it was delicious.)
Local advice about all the sites was very helpful.
My sister-in-Law and myself stayed in a twin room which gave both of us a good degree of privacy in the way it was layed out. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Also the b&b is very central.
very clean friendly guest house.the propery was very warm and comfortable, Joyce and Mark were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, inforned us of the area where to go and how to get there brill The location was excellent.
The hosts were amazing - helpful, friendly, and personally engaging. The location could not have been better for touring historic York. The rooms were attractive and well maintained. Loved the historic area of the residence.
The owners/operators are very, very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is served in an attractive front room of the building. The guest house is excellently located close to so much that people want to see and do.
Mark and Joyce were very welcoming and warm hosts. They made us feel at home from the outset. Gillygate is perfectly located for touring York's attractions and is clean with modern amenities and a great breakfast.
The owners of the guest house were so friendly and helpful about offering advice on places to visit and eat. It was so close to the city centre and the York Minster, also to the circular bus tours. It had parking.
Mark and Joyce were very friendly and made perfect suggestions as to what to do. Everything was lovely regards the room and breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect for a stay in this beautiful city.
Location was great for exploring York, just outside the city wall where the bus tour starts. Joyce and Mark were very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was very tasty! All in all, not one complaint!.
Friendly & helpful owners & hands on, modern roomy & clean
room. Ideally placed for York City, good quality of breakfast. Nice to
not have the usual uht milk in the room, but tastes like fresh.
I am 76 and travelled with my 19 yr granddaughter to YSJ university. Mark and Carol were helpful and kind. Food and accommodation were excellent. We would return to Gillygate and also recommend it.
The owners were very helpful friendly and welcoming, The room was very cosy and the bed was really big and comfortable, The location was perfect for us being just a few minutes walk from York Minster,.
Brilliant location with easy access to York city centre. Large, spacious and clean room but quite expensive for what you get. Not boutique or luxurious. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly.
warm welcome, free parking (a saving of £20 a day), good breakfast, excellent location for sightseeing on foot or from nearby tour bus stop. Joyce and Mark work hard to make your holiday a success.
Warm & comfortable room. Good breakfast. Close to all major attractions. 5 mins walk to York Minster, 10 mins from the station. Would definitely be top of my list for my next visit to York.
Location is excellent.
Breakfast was very good - freshly cut fruit and berries. A choice of hot breakfast including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
Clean and tidy.
Very helpful staff.
Hosts were very helpful and courteous. Breakfast was very good. Hotel was clean and tidy and well presented. The view of the top of the Minster from the bedroom was a pleasant surprise.
Very good location in the city. Mark was really helpful, especially when entire city had a power cut - he was there immediately with candles etc. problem was resolved very quickly.
I had booked this for my parents who said they loved the accommodation and it's central location. Joyce and Mark were brilliant and they wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.
The hotel is central and with walking distance to York Cathedral.
Breakfast was very good, lots of choice.
The owners Mark and Joyce make you feel very welcome.
A pleasant stay.
The owners are friendly and very helpful. Free car parking on site. Comfortable bed. Superb cooked breakfast and coffee! One minute walk from The York Minster and other sights.
Hosts were wonderful and full of useful I formation.
Location near city walls which were great to walk even in the rain
All the places we wanted to see were in walking distance.
Very friendly and obliging couple, nothing too much trouble.Ideal location for all of Yorks attractions. We would certainly stay again and would highly recommend !!! THANKYOU.
Great location close to the centre of York and the Minster. Parking a little limited but helpful staff meant this was not really an issue for us. We would stay here again.
Really friendly owners who were happy to give us more information about York and things to do in the area.
The location was excellent and the breakfast was also very good.
we really enjoyed the stay at gillygate, will be booking for next year the room was very clean cannot fault anything. I highly recommend it good location for the shops.
Owners very welcoming and helpful Comfortable bed, good breakfast.
Convenient for shops and tourist attractions. Owner was very helpful parking and "unparking" my car.
the very best of york!!! owners are the best... great location. very comfortable double room. excellent breakfast.
we will return and we'll recommend it. Cheers Mark!.
The hotel was in a great location with the city centre only 5 minutes walk away. Mark and Joyce were excellent hosts and couldn't do enough. Breakfast was brilliant.
Our room was great and Mark was very helpful with information about
visiting York and how to make the most of our very limited time there.
We would love to go back.
Great location. Close to York Minster. The room was perfect and the English breakfast was served at the table. The hosts were very friendly. Would stay there again.
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing!.
Nothing.....
The attic room is three levels up, and very compact. There is a bathroom however not quite en-suite. Although a good overnight accommodation, don't go for a honeymoon as the single beds are at opposite sides of the room, and watch your head as the roof is very low. A nice place although slightly pricey.
Nothing. Everything was great!.
Only a slight negative. The traffic noise outside due to our choice
of always sleeping with a window open. However, it is a small
compromise when staying so close to the city centre and is more than
cancelled out by the wonderful hospitality and care given by the
owners, Joyce and Mark.
Not a thing.
we enjoyed the breakfast but felt there should have been more of it.It was cooked fresh but as we said the quantity was poor.
The stairs might be a bit tricky for some people. There is no elevator.
Preferred the back bedroom to which we moved on second night as I am a very light sleeper. Both rooms were very comfortable.
The exterior did not portray the good within. Otherwise nothing
particularly negative.
Absolutely nothing to dislike.
There was nothing really we can think of to improve the stay.
Large gap under bedroom door meant we could hear everyone walking past constantly on the stairs. Parking at the back of the guesthouse was an issue but grateful for free parking in the city centre. Unappealing and unwelcoming exterior.
there was nothing to dislike.
Parking was difficult to find and very small. But was good to have somewhere to park as it is on a street with yellow lines outside so difficult to stop.
Traffic noise and party revelers on the Friday night were a bit of an annoyance.
Wardrobe sized en suite shower room. The on site parking is a bit tight to say the least. £108 per night for a B&B was perhaps a tad too much (we had spent the previous night in an hotel in Durham for £95) but if we had stayed in a cheaper city centre B&B we may have had to pay for two nights car parking (not cheap in England, we discovered!) so this is something to consider.
Peak hour traffic in Gillygate
Joyce was wonderful waiting in street while we tried to find our way.
Nothing.
