The Laird And Dog is located in the Midlothian village of Lasswade, 15 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh. It offers a conservatory-style restaurant, rooms with free Wi-Fi and free parking.
Modern rooms are decorated in light colours and feature flat-screen satellite TVs and work desks. Rooms also include hairdryers and tea/coffee-making facilities.

The Manager on duty Sunday 22nd September. We arrived late, very tired and stressed by Edinburgh's lack of road signs, and after the kitchen was closed. Very quickly the manager said he would make us some sandwiches which we said we come down and pick up once we settled in our room. Instead, he brought excellent sandwiches up to our room in short order before we had even finished gasping. A small service, perhaps, but one that he clearly sought no reward, and which will ensure that we will . kaikki arvostelut »
The staff was amazing. They were friendly and very helpful. The food was fantastic, filling and very affordable. The full breakfast was very good and was enough to keep you going through the day. The bus stops right outside the doors, which is extremely convenient. It's just a short ride into Edinburgh or Rosslyn Chapel. The bar was very inviting and had a great selection of beer, wine, cider and hard alcohol.
Great location. Little village, just off the main Edinburgh bypass with shops, pubs etc nearby.
Good hotel bar/pub has live music in bar. (Really good open mike night on the night I was there. Good atmosphere and good music for 50 somethings).
Proper old hotel/pub building with wood panelling and period feel.
Good value. I had a single room and it was fine.
I like the location which is quite inspiring. the staff are polite with good manner , the price is good , the early breakfast which starts 6:30 is very good in timing, quality, and service.
The staff were all friendly, really good atmosphere in pub/restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic - to die for. Convenient location. Friendly locals. On site parking.
The staff were just so polite and friendly. Breakfast was cooked to order and excellent. Bus stop into Edinburgh right at the front door.

The hotel is near Edinburgh and shopping outlets, yet it is surrounded
by the countryside.

Ease of parking. Friendly staff.
very friendly helpful staff.
Clean. Easy access into Edinburgh by bus. That's all.
Friendly staff.
Resteraunt was reasonable.
Although Room 2, twin, was clean and comfortable, it is in sore need of refurbishment: though not modernization to the characterless standard of most hotels. In particular, the en-suite shower and toilet and shower needs rebuilding.
The shower was very small.
I guess if you don't like noise, then you may be disturbed by the pub noise, either from the bar or car park as people leave at night. I usually hate noise but had no problem getting off to sleep here.
There was scaffolding up around the building as they were painting the outside. Again, not an issue to me, but there may be some disturbance if you are in your room during the day. They looked nearly finished anyway.
I don't think there is any thing I can say about the disliking !.
Very small bathroom, toilet seat was loose, barely enough space to sit on the loo, loo roll holder was broke & shower curtain not very clean also poor water pressure in shower.
The room was incredibly warm.
room is small.
Nothing.
Poor quality mattress/we could feel the bed springs
Very noisy music from bar area
Untill nearly midnight.
the only thing wrong the shower head was loose and getting a shower was a bit har.
It was on a very busy road, may not be suitable for young children.
Twin room was quite small but adequate for overnight stay. Noise from traffic kept us awake. Closing the window fully made the small room too warm and a bit stuffy.
Nothing.
Unable to open window, too hot at night, shower room too small to turn.
Traffic noise and noisy guest next door who snored.
Window jammed open with coffee cup.
Toilet seat broken.
Spiral staircase but then we are getting on a bit.
Unfortunately when we arrived we found that there had been a mistake on
the booking. A room was available but was not ideal for the 3 day stay
that we had booked.
To sleep over the Karaoke room !.
size of bathroom.
Ensuite a bit basic.
Bathroom / en-suite which was antequated and tired.
the waitress that served my evening meal on the second night of my stay obviously had had a tough day and it showed.
i didn't like the bathroom its very small.
The room was very small & the bed a bit lumpy.
Only Bed & Breakfast rate available. Room only would be a good option for anyone using it as a stopover for the airport.
Had to mention that bed mattress needed replacing could feel every spring otherwise room and facilities were compact but good.
Showers need updating. Rooms need fans, one of our rooms had a fan and the other didn't. Mattresses need updating too.
The building was undergoing a refurb. We were not informed of this before hand. Woken very early by workmen on the scaffolding outside the bedroom window. Could not open curtains due to workmen on the scaffolding right outside bedroom window.
too soft of a matrass and size of tyhe room was rather small.
The mattress was lumpy and you could feel the springs, needs replacing.
Bed comfortable enough but floor a bit sloped in places
Bathroom ok but bit 'tired' in places
Noisy (due to air conditioning?).
Guest ale prices.
It was a Saturday night and the staff were rushed off their feet! The
building was covered in scaffolding which we weren't advised of
beforehand. Our room was above the kitchen with noisy fans outside our
window (we were advised of this as we entered) and they went off about
10pm when the staff left the building all talking loudly and hooting
their car horns. We won't be staying here again.
very small basic room.
Size and lay out of room. Run down and tatty. Noisy in the morning from 'barrel' delivery/changing. Expensive for what you got. Breakfast big, but very greasy.
Room in need of refurbishment. En suite needing replaced.
Television located on top of wardrobe so found it hard to view.
A cramped room with a single bed.
Expensive in comparison to other places I stayed where quality was much better.
