If you love castles, you won't want to miss Cesky Krumlov's World
Heritage-listed castle! Known as 'the Pearl of the Renaissance', the
State Castle of Cesky Krumlov is one of the most important historic
sites in Central Europe. You'll travel by coach from Prague through the
beatuiful south Bohemian countryside passing picturesque villages and
ponds. The whole town of Cesky Krumlov is on the Unesco heritage list,
comprising 300 historic houses, the castle and chateau.
The town's fairytale red-roofed castle is surrounded by landscaped
gardens, and features grand courtyards, halls and furnishings. The
castle's development over the 14th to 19th centuries has been well
preserved, both in layout and architectural detail. The mighty castle
complex stands on a rock promontory sculpted by the Vltava River,
dominating the attractive medieval town below.
Together with the
magnificent Church of St. Vitus, the castle is a unique feature of the
entire region. The town of Cesky Krumlov is situated in a valley
surrounded by the Blansko Forest to the north and the undulating
foothills of Sumava to the south and west.
