The Cecil Guesthouse is located in the heart of the Blue Mountains, offering views of the Jamison Valley. Just 5 minutes’ walk from Katoomba Train Station, it offers free car parking. Simply furnished, the rooms have either shared or private bathrooms. Each room comes with a wardrobe and a dressing table. The Cecil Guesthouse is just 5 minutes’ drive from The Three Sisters and from the historic town of Leura, which also has shops and cafés. It is a 20-minute drive from the Blue Mountains National Park. Guests can play pool or table tennis in the game room, which also features a fireplace and plenty of seating areas. For dining, barbecue facilities are available in the gardens. Several restaurants and cafés can be found in the neighbourhood.

Even though I was travelling solo this time, there were several family groups staying at The Cecil, and there was plenty of recreational space for children, with table tennis, a pool table and a large TV viewing space. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the old time decor of the Cecil indeed makes it "just like staying at Grandma's". For me, the location close to transport and the centre of Katoomba was ideal, and for those wanting to see the sights such as Echo Point, it is not too far to walk, pr.

The ambience and the 'feel' of the place.I did think you could work to your strengths a bit more with just a coat of paint, and the furniture, which is lovely , arranged in a more engaging configuration. I felt that with very little expenditure but a bit of elbow grease you could make the place very appealing to a particular traveller who likes the guesthouse experience. I loved the dining room, the reading room and the comfortable bed. I found the rooms surprisingly . Lovely place. Simple and good. Very helpful staff. Lovely tea room. Walking distance from train station. Room (private ensuite) had enough space. Heater, no tv. Bathroom was also good enough (very cold at night! We have not turned the heater on). Breakfast was the traditional australian basic (coffee, tea, bread, cereals). They're changing the hotel character, from backpackers to guesthouse. Still a budget accomodation. We liked view from our window and our small room. Everything was clean. Hotel has plenty of space for different activities (fireplace, billiard-table, place for grill and etc.). We had really special time there. The old building, pictures on the walls, stairs... you fell like in museum. I would recommend this place to my friends and everybody who want to make a trip in old times. The place was tidy and clean and the staff very friendly. The rooms and small but for an overnight stay it was perfect. It is right in the centre of Katoomba which means you are central to shops, resturants and a very short drive to the Three Sisters. The staff were very friendly and the games / common room with it's fire place was a great place to relax. Comfortable beds, clean premises, safe location, easy access to the joys of Katoomba during Music Festival. Staff were wonderful. We felt at home with fellow guests. Beautiful respect for heritage features combined with renovations to shared bathrooms. Lovely gardens, lovely views. Have booked for next year. Love this place. Furniture, pictures and old books create a nice historical environment. You get access to several shared rooms featuring free tea/coffee, games (ping-pong and billiard) and library. The staff was very helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. The fire and sitting room were comfortable with lovely sunlight from many windows. Good to have a communal fridge. Nice bathroom with big bath. Wardrobe to keep clothes with hangers and a cupboard for other items appreciated. Provision of breakfast appreciated. Location is perfect, literally on the main street with all the shops, bars and cafes. Bus stop a few minutes walk away to get around the sights. Also close to the train station. Old country house feel to the place, friendly staff and no issues at all. The Cecil has an old world charm, is very well located to Katoomba's cafe's and shops, as well as transport. The manager and staff were very helpful, the room was clean, well heated and the complimentary continental breakfast was welcome. The Cecil is no longer a backpackers hotel. Since under new management the place has been cleaned up, rooms painted, carpet cleaned and common rooms rearranged to be more reflective of the history of the guesthouse and more inviting. Hammy the manager was such a top fella and could not do enough to provide info on the town, walks in Blue Mountains etc. he knows the place is a little run down but is so enthusiastic about future improvements. Clean room with ensuite facilities. Room had recently been renovated and was lovely. The Cecil Guesthouse is an old fashioned 1930's-40's guest house with old world charm. Very good value for money. Very clean place with good social facilities for families eg table tennis, pool table, barbecue etc. Right in town centre and close to many visitor places. The beds were very comfortable. I also realise you have a lot of work to do before it could have a star rating but can see the it will happen. We enjoyed our stay and plan to book this hotel again in the future. People who managed the Cecil Guesthouse are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are clean and the building is charming. The room was comfortable and warm. The location is excellent as its right in town. The breakfast was good. Such a nice place for the value and location. Katoomba is OK and has a very nice beer garden, but I must say that Leura (the little town 1 train stop earlier) is a more pleasant place to stay. Old guesthouse feel of the building, common lounge, games room, dining area. Large Family Room, although not exactly very spacious for a family of 4, had a nice view of the mountains and we could catch the sunrise. I thought it spoilt the look of the room because it was a pre-fabricated affair. For the money is was great but you have to be aware it is a very old hotel. I didn't really have anything I didn't like. Very limited breakfast. Hot water was unstable in shower (however, it never went off completely, unlike what others mention in their reviews). No plug for the bath. No detergent to wash dishes. Perhaps a message book to owners could help with requests when they are not onsite. Don't necesarily want to disturb them with pager, esp at night. Having to leave after three nights. He place is a little dated and does need upgrading. But don't be put off by this. It is great value for money and you will not get a better, more enthusiastic manager to help you plan your stay in Katoomba. Would definitely go back. Hard to find location - in a laneway off the main street of Katoomba. Exterior is in need of renovations,. Very old fashioned, needs smartening up. However the new owners have already made a start on this. Loose slate tile in ensuite flooring, in rooms No. 19-20 Inconsistent supplies of breakfast foods, eg jams, milk jug sometimes empty,lack of staff to replenish milk 1 toaster burned the toast. A single lane from main street can be hard to find and parking is limited but I have found space on my visits. The building is old and requires some maintenance. Some of the facilities need a bit of an upgrade, e.g. one of the bathrooms was a bit mildewed. At this price it would be unfair to quibble. not quite enough showers. At breakfast the tables were bare wood and could have a cover of some kind. No complaints. Good value for money. The room was on the smaller side. Maybe need to introduce some noise restrictions at late night, other guests were very noisy all night long. The place is very old and quirky which is fun - but also means walls are thin and floor boards creak. We had some noisy people in rooms close by which meant we didn't sleep very well. Basin in room was old and stained. Broken uside tiles and messy surroundings. We booked the family room which was very very tiny. The bathroom, especially the base of the toilet was dirty. Knowing this, next time we would probably stay somewhere else. Beds were too soft but maybe they were in the midst of changing the mattresses as one of the double beds felt more comfortable. The tiny ensuite bathroom with tiny wash basin. The house looked a bit sad. It needed a big makeover and lots of TLC. Our room was small, bed was very soft and bathroom at the end of a long hall. Tho we had an ensuite we were continually disturbed by hearing movement thru-out the nite from ppl using hall toilet. Room attendant attempted to begin cleaning room @ 9am..& we were woken & stressed to person forcing entry to go away until check out time. Bathroom extremely cramped design. No breakfast. Noise from other rooms was too loud. Sink in room was blocked. Breakfast is very basic. Some noise from other guests. Hot water runs out in 5mins, noisy for light sleeper. Rooms were a bit small. Room set up ( two rooms connected through a toilet?!) there was no description of how to park on the website, the "buffet breakfast" was very meager. 1. Bed was not comfortable 2. No room amenities 3. Was a backpacker hotel that needs a lot of upgrading. The ridiculous 'en-suite', the single bed crammed into a corner so that the curtains couldn't easily be accessed and could not block out a section of window. The lack of space.The general run-down nature of what must have once been a stunning old-style hotel,. bathrooms very old.
