What people say
I stayed at the hotel with my 18 year old son, both of us thought the Melrose was a very good hotel with large very comfortable rooms. The location was very good 15 min walk to the Lincoln Memorial or White House and only 5 min to Georgetown or the Metro. Will definitely return to the Melrose with my wife. The excellent location.Close to main metro station and walking distance to lovely Georgetown. The cleanliness and ammenties in room which was extremly spacious. The service and quality of food was excellent. Would certainly return and can highly recommend this hotel. all reviews »
Very comfortable feeling, staff was helpful, and room was very nice. friendly atmosphere, close to metro and city centre areas, felt safe. The people working were very helpful to us for getting around DC. Comfort, excellent desk service, convenience to the Metro. General atmosphere and environment with service. We loved the hotel and would stay there again.Everything including very professional staff. Went site seeing as this was a vacation. Home away from home feeling. location, staff excellent. the staff were very friendly and helpful. the location was great for all the main attractions and close to Metro station. The room we had was spacious and comfortable and very clean. Really enjoyable stay and would recommend it to anyone. It was a short walk to George town to all the shops and cafe's, and in the other direction it was two blocks to foggy bottom, nice area, close to metro. Most of the points mentioned in no. 2 above...Staff members were very nice indeed...Room was very good. The location, which allows us to go on foot to many places in Washington DC.Nice, clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds. Staff friendliness. friendly. comfortable bed, quiet room, spacious suite with lounge area was unusual for the price and added to comfort. The location was of prime concern. The staff was excellant. Location is excellent and very clean. Covenient location, well maintained. Friendly staff. Lovely room. Free upgrade, when my husband was able to join me and my son. Convenience to Metro station. Close to DCA.Friendly and attentive staff. Ideally placed for many of the main points of interest in Washington. the location; close to restaurants and the national mall; all within walking distance.Ease of access to subway, staff were helpful with information and friendly. It was in the perfect situation between Georgetown and the White House. The convenient location. Spacious sittig area in room. Centrally located. Spacious and comfortable suite. The location was excellent for visiting Georgetown area. Our room was an excellent size - a little querky in layout but that made it different. Very comfortable bed and clean and tidy room. Good location, close to the sights in Washington and Georgetown. Large room, nice furnishings, good location, excellent staff. Visit washington dc. position / price. The location and having a bus stop a short distance away. A Trader Joe's was just across the street and around the corner, so I was able to have cranberry juice every day and granola bars for snacks. A paper was delivered every morning. Most of the hotel staff were kind and helpful. It was a great place to stay for people that are a little older and for a good location new to us.Room was spacious and clean plus location is very central and very close to george town area. The hotel's proximity to the Kennedy Center and the Foggy Bottom subway were key.Staff was helpful and polite. Location. Comfort. The room was a good size, comfortable bed and attractively decorated. Itwas well located near the metro and walking distance from many finerestaurants, shopping, the Washington Mall, Kennedy Centre, etc.Deluxe king room was very good size. Hotel loaction was good, close to Georgetown. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Good sized comfortable room. Atmospere. Okay believe it or not a MOUSE ran in my room. It emerged from under the bed and it ran towards the door and vanished. It was room 119. I asked for my room to be changed and they placed me to a huge suite which was nice. However the way the receptionist literally held me hostage because of my incidentals ONE DAY before check out was really wierd because I had paid my room in advance. We got caught in a downpour and the hotel staff lent us an umbrella--it was a life saver!. wish there was a metro stop closer to the hotel. The bar was a bit pricey, and no beer on tap."Did not like" is not the appropriate expression, but I would prefer to know in advance the price including breakfast. Wish it had a pool, DC gets hot for tourists, especially with children. No swimming pool. room was too hot even with heat off and windows open. breakfast was expensive compared to similar hotels we have stayed at. The hotel did not accept a late checkout on Saturday, hope for good reasons like full booking, and not just to make it easier on themselves. Flexibility is always appreciated.when we checked in, they gave us a key to a room that already had someone in there. their luggage was on the floor, but no one was there, thankfully. those people never knew someone was in their room. we also had booked the room with the breakfast and the hotel had no record of it. unfortunately, i forgot to bring along the confirmation paper with me. Service in the Library bar was very slow on one occasion, but was not a significant problem.valet parking service was excellent, but the price was a bit inflated and we were not given notice of the price or the information online for this. Also when checking in, the front desk clerk had informed me that nobody is available to take reservations online on the weekends. I think people would like to know their reservations are going to be there when they arrive. This is not a complaint but it would have been helpful to have had a notice near the elevators on 3rd Floor notifying visitors of ice machine breakdown and giving directions to machines on other floors. The concierge/tour advisor did not start till 11am, which is no use if you wish to plan your day. Also the net curtains in our room were dirty, a feature, I'm sorry to say of many city hotel rooms. They need frequent washing. They used glass drinking cups. We will only use plastic individually wrapped ones.Furnature and bathroom was perfectly serviceable but beginning to look a little tired. Some of the furnature looked a little "bashed" around. We could not see the TV very easily from the bed, and there was only one bedside table. The rooms were a little bit outdated, but everything was there. In one room, refrigerator did not work. There were very few inexpensive eating establishments for breakfast close by. The hotel restaurant was fairly expensive. ($8 for a glass of juice). Sometimes the hotel staff weren't so helpful. I guess "spotty" would be the right description.Staff at the reception, specially night shift was not friendly and was not smiling at all. The hotel needs to upgrade their linens and their towels. Linens need to be pressed and not ripped. Towels need to be bigger and thicker.Hotel rooms need updating--especially the bathroom--very small and uncomfortable. Bath room. Staff failed to give requested wake up call and clock radio did notfunction. They also failed to bring up items on another request. Thekickboards and edges of carpets had not been cleaned in a very longtime, although the rest of the room looked quite clean. The breakfast was very expensive. There were 2 prices for breakfasts regardless what you had for breakfast.Charges for internet connection. Some members of the staff must definitely be more polite and the MOUSE issue should be solved. Plus check out the market next door if you don't want to be ripped off by the trodolux restaurantandroom service of the hotel.Price was high; ice machines on several floors weren't working; I hated that they charged $10 a day for internet access.
