From the moment we checked in the staff were friendly and welcoming, It felt like a home away from a home! I would thoroughly recommend staying at The hotel California Best Western, The location is central and the staff treat you like your in a 5 star hotel!.
Free cheese & wine each evening got you chatting to other residents. Very handy for the main shopping / entertainment area. Continental Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Very helpful staff, couldnt do enough and seemed surprised when tipped.all reviews »
Room was beautiful. Walking distance to most every where. Staff was very
friendly and helpful with directions. I had read about the noise but you
are in a big city so its to be expected. I didn't think it was bad
at all though.

The staff is amazing. They didn't receive my booking confirmation
from letsbookhotel.com but even in a busy week they find a way to accommodate
me and this was great. The location is also near everything.
Very friendly staff, the hotel is a bit quirky in decoration, which we liked. Free wine and cheese reception every evening that gave us a chance to chat with people from all over the world.

Very slow lift (but it was an antique). booked a suite but got two bedrooms, not a real problem though.
Area was a little seedy.
The noise, but if you choose stay at Union Square you will not have
other option. I have a light sleep and I could sleep well.
When we arrived they had no idea who we were and had no record of our booking, which was made with Booking .com. Luckily they had a room free, which considering it was Labor day weekend was fortunate. I,ve emailed letsbookhotel.com to ask why the reservation was not made but they haven't replied to me!.
I struggled to get the shower water at the correct temperature but it wasn't a big deal.

our bags and left us standing in the lobby... No suites (room plus
sitting area) no parking.
Some of the roads leading away from the hotel are full of homeless and drunk at night.

in accurate directions from desk staff, over priced, and location. You have to walk through the Tenderloin to get to Market St and we were offered drugs on every walk. Also the loud music and talking from the restraunt between the buildings until 2am.
Room 710 was a noisy room, not only from external noises, but the machinery in the walls, possibly a generator?
The room was unbearably hot at night, with only a fan. No room for suitcases.
