The hotel, while an older building, had been recently renovated and what
a pleasant surprise with all the character & artistic flair in the
room (and even the hallway!) The "wow" factor was definitely
there when we opened the door to the King suite. The room was a lovely
size, the bathroom huge, with great tilework and an awesome shower. We

I stayed here very recently for six nights while attending a conference downtown. Let me say it was totally worth the extra effort and cost in cabs to get downtown ( half hour by bus, 15 minutes 13 bucks by cab). The staff is friendly, courteous, and professional, from the cleaning staff, valet parking attendants, front desk folks and management. I get the feeling people love their jobs and want to deliver good service to the guests. The bar downstairs is awesome and deserves its own review. On

I remember this as the former Sands from being born and raised in San Diego for 35 years. I picked this location as it was easy access to all locations. Even though it is not in the center of San Diego, it is easy to get attractions because of the proximity to highways.
Our room was facing highway but we didn't have any difficulty in sleeping. It is not noisy at all. There is not much to explore in the area but if you just need a sleep to sleep and you are out whole day, then it is a perfect place.

It is very close to the airport (about 1mi) although driving from the
airport is about 2.5 miles. It is a quiet Old town location, but located

It was easy to stay there. Staff was friendly, parked our car very close to our room, likedvthe mini fridge, microwave and the breakfast included, it was more than I thought it would be (breakfast) and it was very convenient so that you got that out of the way and could start your day. We had young kids and we felt at ease as oppose to a mega hotel that caretered to business people, this felt homey. Was in good neighborhood, walking distance to Old Town and close to everything. Charming boutique hotel with lots of charm in a historic building. It's well located in the Gaslight Quarter, close to the Convention Center and with easy access to all the things that make San Diego fun. The rooms are very nice with a fireplace and lots of faux-antiques that made the rooms look more "Victorian" and lots of fun. It had all the modern comforts while giving the impression that we were staying in Wyatt Earp's old San Diego. I'd definitely stay there again.
