I was travelling with my 15 year old daughter. The hotel was a pleasant surprise amidst the unattractive neighborhood. The room was small, but that's New York. We were on 9th floor and the sweeping views of the Williamsburg bridge and Manhattan skyline were amazing! Beds were very comfortable, room was clean. The bathroom was a little different, with frosted glass door and sink outside of bathroom, so probably not great for travelers who need bathroom privacy. Staff was young, polite, and .
all reviews » Regarding location, some might find the surrounding industry/depot businesses disturbing, but you cannot beat the stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, you have from all rooms and the rooftop-terrace. The area is quiet at night - also if you walk home to your hotel in the evening. Convenient with the complimentary hotel shuttlebus, but you could also easily walk to the subway station Queensboro Plaza 7 blocks from the hotel (8 min walk). In the morning there might be a bit of noice from truck. - Located in an industrial district (between taxi company garages and warehouses), but three blocks away from the Underground and with a killer view of Manhattan. Every single room has a view, too! You really needn't bother with the location either, since the hotel has a shuttle that brings you over to Manhattan (and back to the hotel) hourly. And did I mention the view? - You might not agree with every item of the decoration (the Cadillac cut in half over the main entrance comes in m. The staff were really helpful and considerate. We arrived late on Saturday evening and there was a party on the rooftop, we were put on a lower floor so we could sleep and on Sunday we were moved to a higher floor for the spectacular views. The room is spacious and perfect for a young couple. The views are really breathtaking and the shuttle made our stay much easier dropping us outside Bloomingdales. Loved this hotel for the views. We stayed on the 11th(top) floor and they were amazing. Try get a high floor. The beds are comfy and the rooms are cosy.not too small. Very comfortable. The shuttle service from hotel to Manhattan was excellent. The subway was a few minutes walk. However, we didn't use it at night-but late evening when it was dark and it was ok. Taxis back from Midtown cost between $10/12. The front desk staff were really helpful and friendly. The breakfast is ok. But only conven. The staff were all very friendly and always willing to help. The view from the rooms and the rooftop was absolutely phenomenal, especially at night. If you're not staying in Manhattan because you want a view of the New York skyline there is no better hotel that serves that purpose! Firstly the staff at the Z Hotel were great, very friendly and happy to help with every requirement. In total we stayed here 3 times over a 4 week period. The view of Manhattan is also stunning, it's quite nice to be able to see the skyline which you don't get if you stay in Manhattan. Pretty unattractive, but then most of New York is that way. Didn't feel any sense of danger walking from train station. Moma PS1 is walking distance but didn't venture out into Queens. Next time, I might do that. The drinks are pricey, and the food apart from the burgers and spicy chicken wings which were amazing, is over priced. There is traffic noise, but you'd get that anywhere in ny and noise from the rooftop parties on Friday/Saturday nights, but you're on holiday so live a little!. Really nothing. The food from the hotel restaurant wasn't all that great and is a bit unfairly priced. Unfortunately the rooftop bar was not in service during my stay. Maybe it's an English thing but tea making facilities would be nice in the room. The first room we were given was quite cold (even with the heating on full). We were moved higher up in the hotel on the second day and it was much better here. Not a dislike but would of enjoyed a bath in the room. Shower water pressure a bit low, but a minor complaint. Apart from that it's near perfect. Whilst the breakfast is adequate and reasonable value, the staff need training in restocking the fare on offer in a fast turn around environment - one day it was way below par.... Nothing, Nothing at all. None. you have to bring your own water or use the ones provided in the mini bar. The wifi in my room did not work at all!!! ...and the TV did not have cable, but it didn't matter too much since I was away from my room mostly. The surrounding neighborhood can be a turn off at first sight. All in all we were very happy with our stay in Z Hotel NY. Only things which were slighty on the negative side but didn't really bother us in the end. The air condition was a bit on the loud side. But you can turn it off or use the timer. And the breakfast buffet for us wasn't really worth the money. The coffee and juice service was a bit sluggish several times and the waitresses weren't really most motivated. However there is a shuttle to Manhattan, there is nothing in the direct neighbourhood of the hotel, ...you are limited to the (hourly) shuttle. Bar is too expensive for what it is. - Once we have been waiting for the shuttle (on Manhattan) and it did not arrive + sometimes shuttle from hotel is full (mostly in morning) so be prepared to walk to subway station. - little bit noisy air conditioning. Hotel is in an industrialised area and the place gets very quiet at night . Subway station is about 10 minutes walk from hotel....some might find the walk a bit scary aftet dark. I requested for my room to be cleaned while out and it was overlooked. Also the "continental breakfast" made it feel like I'd left my luxury hotel and walked into the Super 8. It was chilly in NYC - mid-November - when we were there and the room was chilly; probably due to the windows and "open" hallways. Complimentary coffee would have been nice. the hotel was a little far from the subway stations but it's walkable, a cab back from manhattan is like $13 so I'd suggest doing that once the shuttle service is over. also didn't like the bathroom, very tiny and there's only one glass door for the shower so water splashes out. these are minor inconveniences, overall I really enjoyed my stay. No restaurants close but subway about six blocks away with a grocery. There is a small, noisy and a bit overpriced restaurant on the premises. N/A. Surrounding area not the nicest; however, the shuttle service helped us save money and get to Manhattan in a snap! Walking distance to Metro around 15-20 minutes. The lack of waterboiler to make coffee, and the amount of noise the airco made, the beep one of the elevators made at every floor ;D, the lack of space in the fridge (it was full of stuff). There aren't too many restaurants close by but the area seems to be building up and the rooftop restaurant/bar...it's a nightclub. If you're over 30 don't even go up there after dark. During the week there is a little bit of noise in the morning from the businesses on that street and it's probably worse the lower the floor you stay on but if you stay on a high floor you probably can't sleep until the party on the roof is over because the music is loud. Quite expensive for size of hotel, little cramped at times. Nothing around. bar meals and drinks were a bit pricey. Bar closes too early mid week 11:30 - 12pm. area hotel is located is not great but did not feel unsafe Shuttle bus was on time majority of time but on one occassion did not turn up. free shuttle service was appreciated, but not as easy as they suggest. Stood for hours waiting for shuttle on 59th/Lex. When he finally got there, wanted to make us wait longer while he picked up another group??? How bout NONONONO. Kitchen was closed apart from one day of our stay Shame about the roof top bar not being used - although hopefully in summer it would be?. A lot of development going on around and we were woken at 5.30am by construction noise. A free shuttle to Midtown shopping area is provided but this is slow in busy times because of the traffic. Still need to catch other transport downtown. The refrigerator is small and full of mini bar purchases that there is no room for a bottle of water. The air conditioner was very noisy,. Location quite far from Manhattan (30 min. minimum), shuttle transportation sometimes full and then had to use Taxi, strange that bathroom sink is outside bathroom,. Small room and bed, but the size was about average for what you get in Manhattan anyways. Not a great menu for dinning but really great staff.
