This hotel is in Chinatown and located only a few doors down from directly under the Manhattan bridge. Sounds terrible but it's not. We were on a budget and this hotel was perfect. It makes a huge difference being on Manhattan, so as long as you can stand the Asian smells on the sidewalk, everything from here is as accessible as anywhere else on manhattan. The metro is a 5 min walk away taking you to time square within 20mins or less. The room was large, clean and recently refurbished. The beds.
all reviews » I though the hotel was very clean, especially the rooms. The location was good, train stations were 3-4 blocks away which made getting around town easy. The neighborhood (Chinatown), although dirty was safe. Staff was friendly and tentative for the most part. The rooms, for being nyc were good size. There was not porter fee to pay for as a group booking. Staff was very good and friendly. Helped with metro and helped with anything we needed help with. Rooms were clean everytime. Comfortable beds also. Location was good and metro station was only 2 blocks away. Hotel also had refreshments available. If I go New York again, definately going to take this hotel again! Free tea and coffee was available also. The room was not super-luxury, but it was much nicer than many hotels I've stayed in before. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff was very helpful. For the money, this is the best value I've ever seen in NYC, particularly if you'll be spending time downtown. Nice room with great front desk help. After checkout we were able to check our bags until our flight later in the evening. Plus flat rate taxi 45$ to jfk through hotel. People who complain about the Chinatown setting need to take a reality check: it's life & life only.. Everything was perfect, low price, yet nice and clean room. We had the the room with the window facing Manhattan Bridge with train, so sometimes you can hear is, but it was not disturbing for us. The bed was comfortable. So it is of course very noisy. It was a last mn booking and one of the last room in Manhattan with reasonable price, and it turns out quite good i think. The subway bridge to Broohlyn is just in front of the façade and it is a little noisy but views are amzing, you can see from the window the lower manhattan buildings and skyline. Subway ran directly past bedroom window, website said manhattan location, was actually in china town and a good distance from main tourist parts of nyc but very close to subway station. Price quoted on website did not include taxes (which was not obvious) so bill was >$100 more than expected. Rooms very dark!!! No main light, just a table lamp. Sometimes the wifi was really slow or not working...no scandal though!. A slight rumble from the near by trains. The Cable Tv had no quality of sound. Not enough channels . Noisy because of Subway Would have liked Coffee machine in room or light breakfast available with price. The only issue with this hotel is a smelly Chinese just before you enter the hotel but that's not the hotels fault just be warned to hold your breath for 3-4 seconds as you walk past it!. I could not get the air on and it was 84 degrees all night. The elevator was slow. Other than that no complaints. The wifi at the hotel, while free, was very unreliable and slow. Basic hotel facilities (almost none ;) Very close to Manhattan bridge, so noisy train-sounds in the background most of the time, the room "shakes" a bit too. Could still sleep well!. Shower went cold, probably due to others using it and also wifi not accessable when too many people were using it too. Smell from the take-away next door was as bad as the sewage smell in the city, and flagging down a taxi was near impossible. The noise from the trains right outside the window. The disinterested, rude staff. The tiny lift which took forever. The dirty guest laundry. The poor lighting in our room. The haphazard housekeeping department- when things ran out (tissues, plastic cups etc) they were not replaced. Elevators took forever, Chinatown is not the cleanest surrounding, no closet space. That I missed my first date of check-in for reasons beyond my control & management did not discount me that date nor did they accommodate my request for late check-out. In spite of the fact that I kept in constant contact while stranded. Not the best location. Dirty carpet on the floor. No refregreator. Too expensive for such a small room !! Hopefully some city guide or information offer in the hotel or the front desk, thx.
