The hotel was very cool and trendy, exactly what we were looking for in a boutique experience. The staff was extremely friendly, and helpful. The lobby bar at night was definitely the place to be, lots of young people and great music, the bartenders were fun and not overwhelmed at all by the amount of people there. The hotel was always buzzing and had a great atmosphere. The hotel location was excellent, not far from Time Square, Penn Station round the corner from the Empire State Building and only a couple of blocks from the subway to get to the rest of New York. Everything! Nothing was too much effort for the staff, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome & relaxed. Staff had plenty of information on the locality & rooms were well designed with quirky little touches according to your budget & kept impeccably clean. Food at bar was priced as per hotel food anywhere else I've been, the difference being it was actually nice! Would recommend highly!. ACE by name ACE by nature. Attention to detail is above and beyond expectation, from the soaps and shampoo's through to having record player and acoustic guitars in the rooms. The bed was one of the most comfortable i've ever slept in! The Breslin and Stumptown Coffee Roasters were both amazing. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning on staying in New York. We liked the distinctive design and ambience. We had very friendly welcome and service. It was fun for my daughter and comfortable for me. We booked a small room and were given a room with a larger bed which helped for mother and daughter sharing. The food was excellent - we ate at the Breslin for both breakfast and dinner, and used the lobby menu too - and it was all delicious. It was a great time spending at this lovely Hotel. Location is great: 20 min. Upward 5th avenue is Central park, 20 min. downward 5th avenue are Soho, Chelsea, little Itally...... Staff are really polite, commited and always ready to help. Room beautifully laid out, huge writing desk with a big old wooden chair and a nice angle poise lamp - a person could write their novel here. Excellent location, great design and friendly staff. Room was small (not as small as in a similarly priced parisian hotel) but with a spacious bathroom and beautifully designed. You can find the essence of ny around the lobby. It is not in the prettiest neighborhood but perfect as a base to move around. Full of character, very comfortable, the N and R trains are just around the corner, the staff is very friendly, best coffee downstairs, and breakfast at the Breslin was good too. Walking distance to 5th ave, shopping on 34th, also Flatiron. N/R trains will take you anywhere from Queens to Coney Island. - The staff were friendly and easy going. In particular, one bellman went out of his way to help me during my stay. I appreciate the extra effort. - The restaurant and bar at the hotel were lively and the food was great. - The location was perfect: easy access uptown or downtown, or via metro. Loved the attention to detail and uniqueness. We bought a film pack from the mini bar and documented the whole weekend on the old polariod in the room. Unfortunately, the Wifi and the cable TV broke for a couple of days during our holiday which was the fault of the provider not the hotel and they did work hard to get it fixed, and keep guest informed. The things would be too small & petty to even mention. Nothing, the place is amazing. For me the low level lighting with dark walls in the corridors and lobby was just a bit too low - too dark for me to read - but on the other hand my daughter loved it. The room is so nice, it's hard to leave. It was a little too dark. There was a distinctive smell of smoke for a couple of night but this is probably the fault of guests despite the hotel policy prohibiting smoking. Nothing else, we really enjoyed our stay there. - The doorknob was missing in the bathroom so you could only open one side of the door. - The room was on the street-side and there were two 24-hour restaurants open across the street. This made for a few noisy mornings. For future stays, I'll request to be higher up (was on the 2nd floor). I would have liked a lounge for guests on 1st floor just to relax and get away from crowds on ground floor. Would be nice for guests to have a space with a roof garden and view... There needs to be a space for guests as the main lounge area is full of people that may not be staying!! Hard to find a space to sit!!. I've been overcharged, so it's worth checking the bill before paying. I had suite room, but I could barely see daylight as there was barely any view. The widows were thin and could hear very noise, but New York is a very loud place! Plus it meant the bath room was a bit chilly. The price is a little high but most hotels in New York are like this. However, I would pay this all over again as it was so good. In small rooms, a wall lamp over the bed for reading would have been a nice addition, plus a hook in the bathroom to hold the lovely robes provided. If never provided, I'd still come back!. The wait for elevators at peak times. Leaving the hotel. We did pick small room which was fine since we were rarely there but air conditioning needed to be on all the time and room was always damp and musty; maybe had smokers previously. The T.V. in the room did not work. One room was so smoky I had to switch. The service in The Breslin was very slow and lackadaisical. I thought the televisions were disappointing. They did not have a very good selection of movies like normal big chain hotels and the televisions were not full HD. Pricey for what it is... We were never able to find an ample space to relax at the front lobby. We found the lobby a bit too dark. At age 61 I realize the lobby at night attracts a younger crowd. Consequently the lobby seemed out of my age range stopping me from ordering a drink at the bar. There needs to be more plug outlets in the room. Front counter clerk forgot to instruct me about using the key card for elevator. Coffee shop lines were too long. Perhaps the hotel can sell or offer coffee to guests. It's a bit dark in the hotel. And there's a great lobby/cafe with music, but such bad speakers... It can be very busy in the lobby in the evening WiFi was not working for 2 days Next time I will book in SoHo or the meat packing district, these are nicer areas (restaurants, bars, etc.). Room was dark -- not much natural light, and would've liked some more workspace. That I only had a short stay :)!. One late night I ordered room service from the Breslin and was told that my simple order would arrive in 25 minutes. Two hours later I called back and was told that they "got busy" and my order was not yet placed. It wasn't the greatest scenario, but it didn't ruin my visit to the Ace. Nothing! All good. Can't do much about some of the "I'm so hip" 20-something annoying 'PR girls' in the lobby, but you can ignore them as you like. bathroom door stuck to bed and noisy guests in the middle of the night returning to rooms. Drink prices!. Lobby bartender (an african american man) on Thursday night, 7Nov, was rude to me and my guests. In fact saw him fill a glass with 3/4th full of water, then 1/4 ginger ale when we ordered ginger ale. When I asked him about it, he said he placed ginger ale in it. I didn't want to make an issue of it, but that was not the best service ever. Common areas always busy and bit too dark during the day for my liking. that i had to check out. Air conditioner was noisy. Hated that I couldn't stay longer!!. Breakfast opportunities - very good coffee but exorbitantly priced beyond that.
