What people say
The room was spacious, everything was clean and shiny, there was a fridge and a microwave in the room. The location is very convenient, on the main road, a huge store nearby for groceries, buses to/from SF, San Jose, airport etc. Very close (~10 m.) by foot to the Caltrain station. The free shuttle to Stanford University (called Marguerite; operated by Stanford) has a stop right next to the hotel. There's even a pool, although I didn't use it. all reviews »
The staff was really nice and helpful. The small swim pool courtyard was cute and felt comfortable sitting out there eating meals. There is the beautiful Stanford Mall right down the road less than a mile, and a Safeway store right next door, so you can get something to eat very easily. The location was easy to get on and off the freeways and to and from Stanford University where we were heading most the time.
The front desk person (female) who works during the day is exceptional
and provides great customer service and knows the hotel well. The newly
renovated rooms are comfortable -- and have an associated higher cost.
The only budget hotel in an area that is known for its high cost. Near
Stanford U.
This motel fulfilled all my needs, a comfortable bed, a fridge to stor food, micro to cook. I was taking care of a family relative who would be in hospital for several weeks. I needed a place near the hospital, needed food at any hour, and needed to rest when time permitted without noise.
I had a seminar at the Stanford University, it's quite close to it and reachable by foot or bike. The staff was super friendly and helpful (no problem to check in after midnight). The room was comfortable and cleaned on a daily basis. Very good price/value relation for Menlo Park.
The location is superb given that we were visiting our son at Stanford and friends in Los Altos and Palo Alto.
The price was very reasonable for the location. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were quiet.
The front desk staff was friendly and competent.
There was an issue at check in due to someone hijacking my reservation, but Kumar came in during the early hours of my check in and made it right and saved my vacation. He made sure that the issue was corrected to my satisfaction and made it right!.
The hotel is quite clean and confortable, all the furniture are new. You save money because there is a supermaket right next and you have the needed amenities to cook in your room.
People who work at Mermaid Inn are nice and helpful.
The staff was great checking in really late were there for surgery room n kitchen very clean very convenient to be next door to safeway used kitchen for dinner n breakfast very helpful since husband could not leave to go eat.
Friendly staff Convenient location Economical Nutritious breakfast buffet--
management must have made changes since the review about needing
oatmeal, bagels. Comfortable bed Well lighted bathroom Excellent parking.
I was glad to have a clean room with kitchen amenities. We were there for a sick family member and was glad to go to a clean room with kitchen amenities. (didn't need any extra stress) appreciated the room.
Manager and Staff were friendly room was clean and neat.
Bed was comfortable
Hair Dryer, Ironing board,
Hangers Flat Screen TV
Newly remodeled,
Great water pressure
Nice Stay
Thanks to the great staff!.
Friendly, helpful staff. Funky furnishings. Felt safe. Could walk to shops and restaurants. It was quiet! I definitely would stay there again, and recommend it to my family/friends.
The front desk was very nice. Room was very clean and it was very quiet. The kitchen admentities were quite extensive and unexpected.
All in all, a good experience and we'll be back!.
Sweet and helpful staff!
Great price!
Cute swimming pool!
Comfortable Room!
Nice breakfast!
Convenient location, very close to Menlo Park Caltrain Station.
Highly recommend!.
The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The mermaid theme of the place was very pretty. Very clean. Good continental breakfast.
AM coffee, free internet access in lobby, convenient location for a Palo Alto/Stanford visit, best price I found.
Is it quite comfortable for that money and nicely located (train\bus stations, mall, Stanford are nearby).
Good location near Stanford University and near good restaurants. Inn is
clean. Service was friendly.
- clean
- room far from road, not noisy
- staff arrived at night to recover wi-fi access.
that it seemed very clean. the desk people were very pleasant, polite, helpful.
The location is great for downtown Palo Alto andfor Stanford U.
Clean, everything worked, good staff - great value for the area.
staff were extremely helpful and nice; free breakfast.
Great cheerful receptionist. Very welcoming.
Great price, great location and very clean.
Location. Value. Cleanliness.

Mermaid Inn has a good location for access to Palo Alto: within a mile
walk of Standford Shopping Center, University Ave, and the Palo Alto
Caltrain station. It is only a couple blocks from the Menlo Park
Caltrain station too. It is right next door to a 24-hour Safeway, so you
easily can stock up on supplies. Rubios restaurant next door (fish
tacos) is pretty good too. The hotel staff was fairly
friendly/helpful. There is also coin-op laundry on site.
Loved the location and ability to walk to restaurants, movies, etc in
adorable Menlo Park. The exterior of the hotel is very cute and the
hotel will be a great place to stay once the rooms have all been redone.
It was the most reasonable accomodation in the area. The woman at the desk was extremely helpful and cheerful.
The staff were very polite and service-minded. Easy to park the car. Standard quite OK for the price.
The staff were very helpful and courteous. The room was also very clean, no complaints there.
Good value for the money overall. We spent 2 good enough nights.
Room was clean and bed was very comfortable.
Proximity to Stanford Stadium and the price.
Friendly staff
Nice sized room
Good shower.
Comfortable bed. Kitchen.
Comfortable bed.
location.
Location to Stanford was close.
Practically no breakfast (instant oatmeal? really?), no elevator. Window curtains should be shut at all times since the window overlooks the corridor.
The breakfast options were lacking. The choices were individual packaged sweet pastries and sugar cereal for breakfast and would have liked some instant oatmeal or a plain bagel for an option. There were only red apples and having an orange or banana also would have been nice. Since there is a Safeway right next door seems they could have a few more options. The coffee was good!.
There is a mix of renovated an unrenovated (old) rooms. It can be noisy
if you are staying in rooms close to the street. Our first room had a
wet rug and was very moldy. They did move us (upgrade), but had we not
complained it may have cost us extra to request a move.
The coffee in the morning was awful, but that's almost everywhere in the us the case. The El Camino Real is quite noisy in the morning.
The hallway needed cleaning and vacuuming.
Night reception did not speak very much English, I had a hard time convincing him to get the manager there to resolve my issue.
Parking space very tight for a big vehicle 2500 dodge ram.
Older room accommodations No security bar in shower Stained entry
carpet Noise from room above No buffet counter No bananas No
comfortable chairs in room.
The old TV took some getting used to, and having to use 2 remotes (without any instructions) made my limited TV viewing a bit frustrating. Also, the sound on the old TV was really poor.
Not their fault, but there is a local train that blows it's whistle, pretty annoying.
Along with El Camino Street. Many trucks passing by. Could be noisy in the morning.
Didn't really matter for comfort, but the green and blue color scheme in my room was a little drastic...and if they had a little extra money it would be nice to replace the carpet upstairs in my hallyway.
Cold tile floors.
Room lacked door on the bathroom. Inn is well-used and old in age and
design, albeit clean. Price not competitive with low cost chains such
as La Quinta, America's Best Value, &C., Some of which are as
well-situated.
- unhealthy breakfast with sweet crisps. but for motels that's pretty standard.
The high toilet, it was hard to use in comfort.
Older place - flat screen tv but no HD.
none.
Thin walls and its quite old but thats ok for the price.
Nothing.
The television system was not good. It was hard to work and it did not
work well, they should have a better system or directions.
Not particularly well furnished, but adequate.
The rooms are a bit old.
Sparse breakfast choices. Mostly just sugary pastries and sugary cereals.
Bagels and cream cheese would be a nice option.
TV hard to operate, pool cold.
Cold room. But an extreme cold front had come thru CA.
brekfast.
Nothing.
While clean where it matters (sheets, towels, bathroom), this place is
starting to show its age in the furniture and fixtures. This is one of
the cheaper hotels in this area, though, so you can't expect 5-star.
Our room looked nothing like the rooms pictured on the hotel website.
Stained and torn curtains, very old (and odd) furniture, painted
cinderblock walls that gave the room a jail cell-like feeling. Turns out
only single-bed rooms have been remodeled, and ours had not. The person
at the front desk was unsympathetic to my concerns and reminded me of
the high motel prices in the area. It felt like a bait-and-switch.
Breakfast was no breakfast for us breakfast eaters from Sweden. Little dangerous (bad sight) to go out on El Camino by car.
The rooms themselves were pretty sub-par. The staff upgraded me free of charge, so I'm thankful for that, but my first room had:
- A mattress that was too big for the box spring below it, sagging at the foot of the bed.
- A toilet seat that didn't fit the toilet bowl
- Almost no wifi connectivity.
The furnitures in the room were old and dirty.
It was on the dingy side....like an apartment I had 50 years ago in college!.
Room could have done with a good clean - moved bedside locker and saw a cracker that looked like it had been there for a while
Breakfast was fairly basic (could be the norm for motels)
Pricey for what it is - but it is handy for Stanford/Menlo Park area.
Dirty linoleum floors.
shower drain (#19) needed work
Wall clock not running
table clock off time, lacked instruction for setting.
pool not heated
carpets are filthy.
Wifi don't work.
Everything! Tv did not work and was not told about it. Air conditioner
leaked and carpet was always wet. Afternoon desk help would not fix
problems. Was told I could get a discount if I stayed there again which
will never happen.
