The photo's do not do this hotel justice! The essence of this hotel of rich history or sport, that dark, seductive feel to the rooms- it really was such a wonderful stay! The staff were FABULOUS and so helpful towards our every enquiry. Breakfast in the morning was so refreshing (somewhere that finally serve fruit without it being covered in sugar!!) the rooms were spacious and the facilities that were on offer was like no other! ( seriously, how many hotels have a basketball court and running .

Very nicely appointed and maintained hotel facilities on top of the city's historic and premier private membership athletic club. If you like to work out, this is the place to stay. Included in your room rate is access to 4+ floors of athletic facilities. Great for seasoned travelers since it's a bit quieter - not a "party" hotel. Good breakfast included. The building/institution was terrific. The staff very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were a nice mix of tester year and today. The breakfast was superb. Plenty of options and well done. The gym facilities were also a nice extra. All in all... an excellent stay. A brilliant theme hotel with the charme of the 50´s, High quality in all aspects, the best hotel from 11 hotels, under 200$ I was in la and lot of personality. We didn't use sport facilities but they looked excellent, particularly the pool for serious swimming. Convenient 24 hour, in and out, parking at a reasonable price. Absolutely everything, the training facilities are the best we have ever seen in a hotel, the rooms fantastic and the staff superb. It was down the road from the jewellery district (not the most clean area.. Some could call it the 'hood'). The walls are thin/could use soundproofing. While we weren't disturbed by unruly guests, you could hear average volume conversations next door through the walls. found hair on the bathroom floor and in the tub. I'm just being picky now, the spa was closed, but it was a holiday. There could have been complimentary water in the room. The area isn't the nicest but it was close to the staples center. Certain areas of downtown la can be seedy. Bathroom seemed very outdated compared to the rest of the wonderful room. The area is a bit off the beaten track,but its worth it for the ambience. Breakfast offered was continuously identical. Mixed of fine and basic offer, but in excellent manner presented and served. The buffet breakfast, was the same thing every day. Would have been good if the buffet menu had more variety. Nothing. Google maps are not accurate! It takes you to "skid row". Make sure to put in the 'west' 7th. We have to go leave!. Location in center of LA (Mexican area) which is not good if you want to spend time on a beach. We had a room with an adjoining door and could hear the people in the room next to us quite clearly. No wine bottle opener... Room service closes too early. I didn't find this sooner!. Small bathroom Bars and facilities closed early (10pm). We liked everything. a lot of homeless outside specially at night. Room decor is quite dark (faux wood panel wallpaper). Hard to pick out the entrance from the street. Europeans like me are used to bread and butter and cold cuts of some kind in the morning. But all the fruit was nice. For the money I thought the location was a little too close to the poorer areas of downtown. Not many hotel staff, had to share service with the Athletic club members. Felt like a club first, hotel second, although when we did get service it was very good. Heating did not work throughout the 5 days we were there. Staff tried their best and gave us a small heater, but it was not really adequate. 1. The room was very dark. 2. The restaurant and bar are closed over weekends, a big disappointment. Nothing. Continental breakfast was hearty but cold. No counter space in our bathroom. Our friends had a sink outside their bathroom so they had a counter but we didn't. Had to put our toiletries on the nightstand. Gym/cardio equipment needs update. Nothing. The rooms are thinly walled and was difficult to sleep. There is nothing not to like!. it was a bit difficult to regulate the temperature of the water in the shower... trouble with our room shower,mens whirlpool not working,room not very clean.
