The Crowne Plaza resort in Lake Placid is a beautiful hotel with a magnificant view of Mirror Lake. It is centrally located and within walking distance to the center of town. Additionally the resort offers a free shuttle to their off site restaurant and golf course. A free trolley into town runs regularly as well. The Boathouse and Veranda restaurants are excellent. Beautiful hotel with easy check-in/check-out. Clean rooms, on a hill overlooking Mirror Lake with mountains in background. Tables outdoors to eat/have cocktails with an awesome view! Beautiful gardens. We were given a free upgrade because the wing in which we were scheduled to stay was FULL of little Hockey players! That was so thoughtful and a lovely surprise when we checked in! Our room had a fireplace and lake view~ just beautiful!. The view of Lake Placid with the mountains in the background and Whiteface Mtn., architecture of the resort and setting on the hill, the Great Room Lounge and restaurant, easily accessed electrical outlet for CPAP machine in room. the hotel is beautiful. our room was very nice. we upgraded (for a small fee) to a king room with jacuzzi tub. breakfasts were very good. the hotel gave us a discount for another restaurant in town. very nice. all staff were polite & friendly & answered all our questions also good with giving directions food was great & hotel & grounds were kept clean the view from our room was exceptional. I liked the location of the resort, up on a hill top overlooking the mountains, away from the "main traffic". The decorating was very country, and it was a great value. The people were very friendly. I've stayed here before and really don't have any negatives. It sits on the top of a very steep hill which makes walking to/from town a bit of exercise. I look forward to it, but some may not like this climb. Nothing!. When first seated in Mackenzies' restaurant it was next to a very loud table in a corner with windows. It was hard to hear anything but that table so we asked to be moved to a quieter area. The server told us he'd "check to see if it would be OK". Same thing happened in the Great Room restaurant when we asked if a simple menu substitution would be possible. One wonders, do these people get "beaten up" if they make simple decisions on their own??. there was a can-am jr hockey tournament in town that weekend. So lots of pre-teen kids. not superviser during night. we were across from stairs & they were up & down stairs all night long. second night was much quieter. That it was dog friendly. There are many of us who don't like animals, and everywhere you went, people had thier big dogs. At one occasion, it was not on a leash. We go away to relax, and enjoy the area etc., not to have pets all around us. Anyone who was allergic to animals could not stay there. No extractor fan in the bathroom made life for a mature woman uncomfortable. Nowhere to sit and recline outside, had to buy food to sit on the front terrace. Room service waiter asked for a tip but on reading brochure 18% was included in charges. Had to get management on that. They dealt with it well. We didn't like having to walk up the giant hill the hotel is situated on. We would have also loved a continental breakfast. beds were very soft and back hurt every morning, seemed as if mattresses were old. Have stayed in many hotels and never have this problem before. Maybe I am getting old. Location of our room was awful. Near the pool and very noisy. It was a very cold weekend and our room was cold and drafty even with heat turned up to 70 degrees. First room did not have a window (?) as it was communicating towards the inside of the pool area, staff pretended everything else was booked so we had to take a very costly upgrade to get out of room 110. View from room was disappointing. Decor in room was dated, but mostly clean. Table chairs were dirty and stained (!?) Heater was noisy. Some of the hotel seemed outdated. I would update the carpets from the 80's. Also, I hated the lights in the rooms because they were very dim. Nothing - it was a great experience. need FAN in bathroom !!!! would be nice to have more than one set of shampoo and conditioner in bathroom. The hotel room itself was very dated. The carpet and coach were down right gross. The room was a cheap hotel room inside a beautiful building. The fitness center equipment needs to be updated. Much of it was not working correctly ie, ellipiticals and treadmills. sometimes we try to conserve on towels and soap, but they seem to get replaced anyhow. I liked everything about it. Beautiful grounds, great facility. Everything you need to relax. I can think of nothing. The air conditioning unit was rather noisy. Each time it kicked on and off it woke us up. We had to turn it down very low in order to sleep. Check in at 4pm seemed late then an 11 am check out. Small things: no coffee in room 1st night, toilet leaked leaving a puddle on floor, long walk to room from elevator,. Shower Design: 1. no grab bars 2. no shelf to place items 3. no privacy place in tiolets 4. Difficulty of moving through corridors loaded with hockey players. 5. Floor design - Cannot go on secend floor fr Adarondocks to front desk. Only negative was the noise of other patrons at night. Realize this is a golfers delight but both nights we stayed, we were woken up constantly by drunken men yelling in the hallways and coming and going of their rooms and doors slamming. Not a good spot for sleeping, especially when husband had a bike race in the morning and was very tired from lack of sleep. There was a smell in the room. The staff offered to change the room but we opted for air freshner and lived with t. Hallways are a hodgepodge. Some corridors in good shape, others not so. Pricey for the area. Bugs in the room. nothing. Rooms need updating. No bathroom in the swimming pool area. While paying extra for a room with view and advertised balcony the balcony was quite small/confined barely large enough for two plastic chairs. No table. People in room next to us very loud all night, we had to call front desk. Nothing. Nothing negative to say. Hotel need some upgrade (. We were not informed that the free breakfast included only the buffet.
