First let start by saying that it is not the Ritz Carlton; however, this hotel is located right in the middle of Waikiki Beach. When you walk out of the lobby it is ½ block walk to the International Marketplace and a 1.5 block to the beautiful Waikiki Beach. The place offers free parking and each tenant is required to display a sign on their windshield to indicate that they belong there. I have read some reviews that the lot was full and they were unable to find a spot. We never encountered tha.
all reviews » Ilima is a gem! The decor is absolutely vintage Hawaiian.... wood, tile, wicker, tropical prints, original local artwork, and pink all over. We had room 1507 and had an amazing view of the canal and mountains. It was perfect to wake up to this every morning, with a very big balcony seating area to have coffee and tea. Studio room was also really big with a full kitchen. Convenient to go jogging along canal and just 3 blocks away from the beach! The location was the best... luxury row, Hya. We have stayed at the Ilima in Waikiki twice now, and I would certainly stay there again. When compared with many hotels more expensive than the Ilima, it comes out ahead. Although not on the beach, you are only a few blocks from it, and close to many many restaurants and the bus line.It really has a very very good location, about mid-way in Waikiki, and close to a large grocery store. The staff are wonderful and it is very quiet. It is also a very well kept, clean hotel, rooms are large (we ha. Close to shops for yourself an gifts. Lots of food choices. Abc stores. Starbucks. Mc ds. International market place. Beach easy walk through dukes lane an across the road an down the surf board alley way to the beautiful beach. Great swimming. Also the pool at the hotel was great. We ate our breakfast in our room, and were able to keep some snacks in the fridge. The parking is free on site, which also saves $20 - $25 per day. The staff were all very friendly and willing to help with anything from directions, to extra beach towels. Great location for the beaches and shopping. The location is ok, not the first street near waikiki beach, but very near. You can go walking without any problem. The best thing is that you have a free parking spot if you are a guest. That's so COOL because in waikiki it's not so simple to park and you have always to pay it. For example, the front door had the outer skin repaired, but the repair was accomplished by hammering nails halfway in then bending them over. Then they painted over the nails. There is some poor workmanship like that throughout the room. However, for the price, location, amenities, and staff it is still a great place. No wireless in rooms but I consider that a plus! Nice to get away from the internet. They charge for using the in-room safe... I think $2.50 per day. Doesn't make sense since internet (via cable) and parking are free. The pool was tiny but why use the pool when the beach is only 5 minutes away by foot?. No complaints. A little bit old. Nothing. We only stayed for 3 weeks. The pool was a little bigger than a hot tub. Facilities are a bit old but still nicely maintained. It was a bit noisy. I could hear some noise from the street at night. There was also some industrial noise during the day. I would ask for a room at a higher floor next time:) I found the beds a bit hard.. The pool was extremely small and the hotel charged for coffee something we had always had for free in all the other hotels we had stayed in in the USA. They also charged for the safe! But we didn't use it. These were the only minor issues. The rooms are a bit run down and the bathroom is a little on the small side, but you pay for what you get. Pool and space around it is very small and has little atmosphere. also kids (and their mum) was yelling when in the pool and it echoed around the space. The bed mattresses were very uncomfortable, they were lumpy and too hard! The wallpaper in the bedroom was lifting and peeling off which gave the room a run down look and was not consistant with the very well maintained lobby. Overall clean feel of hotel, bed, bathroom, but our room carpet was stained. Would have made a very nice impression had the carpet been tended to. Mattresses slightly firm but ok, parking spaces pretty tight. One morning, the housekeeping lady knocked on the door at 8.30am, whilst we were still in bed!. Can not think of anything that was of any significance. - view on the other buildings - curtains - the bathroom. If anything, the decor was in need of updating but good value for the price. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The decor could use updating. I would have loved more than one pillow!. The apartment was a bit "tired", in terms of paintwork, etc, but was reasonable value for money. Nothing really. The rooms could do with an update but purely cosmetic. nothing. very limited cooking utensils and limited parking/ charges incurred if safe is used/no complimentary coffee for coffee machines in rooms. Parking spaces were narrow. Beds were very firm. A bit dated, noisy a/c, trying to charge for using safe ( we objected, they demurred). The rooms look a little old ,but they where still comfortable. Rooms were a tad worn around the edges, but clean. The street it's on can be a tad rough at night due to a tavern on the same block, but during the day it's very quiet. Pool is small. Didn't like Waikiki, too busy. Hop on /hop off bus a wastw of money unless you want to shop! Pearl Harbour absolutely amazing. Noisy at night, cars, trucks etc. Rooms bit old and jaded looking. My holiday was too short so I didn't have enough time to fully enjoy (only 4 nights).
