As other travelers mentioned, the decor is a little tired and could use some updating, but we wouldn't have traded it for a cookie cutter chain hotel. Our room was a corner room and was incredibly large, clean and comfortable. It could have been more welcoming with local artwork on the bare walls and a comfortable desk/chair added. Had we been interested in Binghamton's night life, the location would have been perfect!. Update of the old style mid-20th century luxury hotel. Has the standard up to date features available at other locations. Most people today are not familiar with this style and are used to today's chain cookie cutter layout. It's all about location! Stayed there because it was budget friendly and close to where my daughter lives. We enjoyed the continental breakfast both mornings. Ate lunch in the grass out back and menu food was delicious also. the architectural style was awesome. We liked that it seemed it could be haunted. The staff was very accomodating. Could have used more personal touches in the room. I don't expect much for a continental breakfast but it was pretty meager. The large coffee machine was broken so it was being made one pot at a time, which took forever and it wasn't worth the wait. There were no cups for the OJ so we used coffee cups. Had to ask for more knives, some cream cheese for the bagels, and some napkins. We got there closer to the end time, so maybe it was better earlier. All floors creaky, elevator made some scary noises as well (provided, it's an old building). No "fan only" setting on ac unit in room. Wi-Fi information should be provided with the check-in booklet containing room key cards! This is common practice at most major hotels and is easy to fix (a couple extra printed lines on the cards). I never like staying right in the city however, I know you can't control this since the property is located there. In those days hotels were located downtown and outside these areas were considered resorts. Only complaint was that the mattress in my room was a little worn down. Could stand to be replaced. It was smaller than expected The ceilings were high and i think that gave a skewed version of the square footage. I noticed that the bathroom was not cleaned well. The curtain rod in our room was hanging off the wall. The grout near the tub on the floor needed cleaning. Nothing. Breakfast could have been better with hot choices. Nothing. We weren't too pleased with the breakfast. Wallpaper in room has started to peel off. breakfast quite basic. Double beds just don't do the trick fr 2 people. nothing. The room is sparcely decorated and could have used some pictures on the walls, E.G. The continental breakfast was unacceptable: a meager offering of fruit, paper plates/cups, no wait staff. The coffee was served in a pump carafe and I had to tend to making a replacement pot. The chair in the room was soiled. Kitchen staff use the same elevator as guests and one of the housekeeping staff took smoke breaks at the front entrance when we were there. Drape hem was completely out and hanging in tatters. Ceiling in bathroom was badly stained and appeared ready to descend onto my head while I bathed. Towel rack was missing and wall damaged. Was addressed as What do you guys want? This is a popular and lamentable way of addressing people these days and as a 67 year old lady not something I love. Passable in a diner...not in some place that is trying to be a bit more up-scale. But still, this was a great visit. it could have been cleaner. There was obvious dust on our bedside table and lamp. they ran out of a couple essentials during the self serve breakfast bar, i.e. well before 10:00 a.m. Some things they were able to restock, but had no replacements for other items. The entrance to the hotel was not plowed and the snow was there all night making walking very treacherous. The entrance facing State Street and the parking lot was plowed. The bathroom was filthy. I'm not a neat freak but there was long black hair in the tub and on the floor. A lot not just a loose strand. I should have asked for a new room but just cleaned it myself. Was in shabby part of town, building was old and rooms very small and rather shabby.
