The location is absolutely the best, when visiting Kiev. Nice cityscape from the window, if your room is high enough. Everything is reachable by walking. The hotel is clean and pleasant, although economy rooms still have their ceramic tiles and doors from hotel's opening in 1961. But it's absolutely OK for the price asked. Very good breakfast as well. Good soundproofing (at least we didn't hear what was happening on Maidan Nezalezhnosti on opposite side of the building, and it was really HOT t.
all reviews » As a Professional Guide with 36 years of experience I must admit that ukrai̇ne hotel is perfectly located in front of Maidan Independent ( By the way We,Turks call Square "Meydan") and with spectacular views of the Kiev.I Contemplate the domes of St.Sophia Cathedral and St.Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery through my room's windows. I recommend Ukraine Hotel Which is in the heart of Kiev and 5 minutes far away from the Metro Station on feet. Location and old style (Soviet) atmosphere. There are still floor ladies on every floor who will give you as much water as you want and will wash your clothes. WiFi worked properly and reception desk was helpful but frequently busy helping people. There is an "erotic" bar with pole dancing in the lobby. Great view of the city and square from higher up floors. Breakfast was also good in a nice room. Staff was helpfull all the time. They even try to help you if you encounter something in your trip not even about the hotel. There was an exchange office which is much more economic than the banks on the city center. Best location comparing all of the hotels in Kiev for sure. I would really want to stay there again. Location nice and staff great nice! They arranged what we hope very quickly with smile. We were surprised that the hotel was in such good shape for the price. I have stayed at other hotels in the area( eg. Dnipro) and found this Hotel Ukraine to be quieter and better with nicer rooms. we arrived very early (7.00 am) and they let us check without any extra payment. I also asked for a room with the view to the square and this was no problem too. The location is supreme and rooms are reasonably comfortable. The Soviet atmosphere lingers and you can see this in the room and the often tiny bed. Excellent central location. Very clean Suite and hotel generally. If You're not a news reporter, then preferrably stay away from this location in case of unrests in Kiev - the hotel is overlooking Maidan Nezalezhnosti - the very heart of all major meetings of opposition and revolutions. The hotel itself cannot be blamed for this, but You may face some difficulties getting out of it and getting back, since nearby streets may be blocked. Just keep that in mind - otherwise - highly recommended, as it has exceeded my expectations. Sauna is rarely open.We called attendant but He didnt come. Bed is really small and shower head was not stable. Minor gripes though. Probably a bit too expensive for what it offers but, hey, it is a landmark in the city. The bathroom and the related facilities. Technology is more than twenty years lagging the current. Yet, functional. Bathroom may benefit from some sprucing up. Breakfast could be improved but this is a minor problem. The bed can be very small and if you get a bigger bed your bed sheet is very small and doesn't cover the bed properly nor yourself. Breakfast is passable but it could be better. They have "cabaret" with girls dancing and stripping but it is pretty dull with hardly any girls around and those that are around look pretty bored. Staff customer service very basic and in need of extra training espcially in the dining breakfast. Also the money exchange counter the lady was quite rude and sharpe with very direct with me. I didn't appreciate and was quite moody. Wifi was not workinag at all, and it was for extra charge. Breakfast is terrible. There's very little to choose from and what is on offer isn't very appealing. I would avoid paying for this until they sort it out. Using same towels for three days because no one cleaned the room for two mornings Breakfast was a little bland, but thats Ukranian food I guess. Very few facilities (no safe in room for example), Internet free but not very easy to access because of the login system. no safe, coffee maker, hair drier or ironing facilities in the room. If you need them you have to ask. very little shampoo and there was no toilet paper one day. All was ok). Slow elevators. WiFi needs to be purchased on reception, but you can ask for LAN cable at your floor from maintenance lady and use free internet on wire. Apart from the reception nobody speaks English. My only complaint is the mattresses. They are old and should be replaced. I could feel the springs. I remember the same problem last time I stayed there. a bit worn but as they say: you get what you pay for. Krestsatik str. was closed for valking so I spend some time to approach hotel with car. But it was small problem. The weather was bad ... :- ). Please do not make the same mistake we did and agree for security staff to organise a taxi. The taxi driver introduced by the security staff charged 3 times more than normal fare. Beware of scams!!!. some reception girls do not understand english so well. Coffee with milk for breakfast was awful that's only 1 I don't like. Room supplies (TP, Shampoo, soap) were inconsistently delivered. The receiption agree me to check out at 1pm but after 12am the aunty clean shout at me:(. Tv had to be reset as lapsed to computer mode automatically. Breakfast a bit basic. Breakfast was just ok. Rip off taxi arrangements outside hotel - beware. Walk down the road and get one. Restaurant, you can not charge it to your room. Credit cards are not accepteed. You have to pay cash!. Rather limited choice for breakfast. Bathroom is like from USSR times, boor breakfast. The staff doesn't speak poor English or not at all!. Incredibly expensive taxi if book on reception. Only one towel in room. water came out brawn from the tap one day. Internet out of order. Hotel from USSR time and service is the same:). Breakfast, just nothing there, no cereals or milk, cups, glasses etc etc.
