The staff were really friendly and could not have been more helpful, providing everything from an annotated map to the city centre - without me asking for it, to menus for local restaurants. The food was delicious and I was particularly impressed that they had a vegetarian hot breakfas - A warm sincere greeting by the owners on arrival set the tone for our stay. Lovely room , well dressed and furnished.En-suite more than roomy enough and fit for purpose, which isn't always the case with guest houses we've used in the past. Location is peaceful, and in a nice area. Pleasant and friendly staff could not be more helpful, and the breakfast sets you up for the day, truly a treat!! Private parking at the back of the house (free), is a bonus. We both rate Ascot House as being as good

  The owners of the hotel were first class in all departments. I would stay again without hesitation, as everything fit the bill for my requirements. The city was just a 15 minute walk, the location was quite and peaceful, the cooked breakfast was as good as I have had on my travels. My husband and I were travelling with our two grown up daughters, and my husband has mobility issues. The Livingstone's were very accommodating by assigning us their main floor room. It was a wonderful room and easy to move around in.

The garden is beautiful, with ruins and lovely flowers, and big enough for guests (and their guests) to sit in the sun without being on top of each other. Nice that there is a bar, and a big car park just at the back..

Didn't really know what to expect after reading some of the reviews but I found it very comfortable. Just check in and then you can come and go, there's no reception or leaving your keys. Comfortable room and bed, generous supply of tea, coffee, etc, and an excellent breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

  We were amazed! Not wanting the formality of a hotel and having stayed in luxury apartments in coastal resorts for our summer holidays we thought we would try The Lawrance. Only two words can described our feelings when we unlocked the door - absolutely fabulous! I would not hesitate to recommend this to any friends or relatives wanti - Blown away by the plush, stylish apartment. We visited York with my parents & this 2-bedroom apartment suited us much better than two separate hotel rooms, as it provided a social space (kitchen, dining table, sofas and TV) Incredibly convenient for walking to key places in York; train station, the Shambles, the Minster and, highlight of the trip for my husband, the National Rail Museum. The lovely Heather at reception is also wonderfully helpful :)
