It was nicely situated in a very quiet part of walk and just a 5 minuet walk away from the city walls, the holme lea manor was very clean and tidy staff wre excellent very freindly. The bedrooms where finshed to a high stanard and breakfast was excellent over all a very plasent stay. The room was clean, comfortable, beautifully modernised in a beautiful house and such a convenient location. The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome, and excellent value for money... so much better than a big chain!.
all reviews » The Hotel location was very good for being able to walk into the centre of York. The hotel was clean and tidy with a very friendly atmosphere. Our room which had been recently refurbished was well decorated and very comfortable. We stayed in a superior double room. It was wonderfully decadent, huge, victorian style. Tha hotel is in a great, quiet location , only 10 mins walk to the minster. Definately recommend. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff were friendly and the breakfasts were great. We were unable to speak to staff on the two occasions we tried the bell. Mattress too soft and lumpy.Pity there was no resident's lounge.We had to spend a lot of time in the bedroom ,as we were travelling with two young grandchildren. Toilet did not flush properly. As the room was at the top of the house, in the attic; it was at times cold, although the heating was on. A slight critism would be that a second waitress at breakfast would have helped to re-set the tables after they had been used, rather than having to help yourself to cutlery and crockery from other tables which became slightly embarassing. We were not the only ones who experienced this.the times for breakfast, something like 8am-9am a bit too early should be extended til 10am. The breakfast was acceptable but wasn't great.We had a problem with the bathroom roof leaking badly when the people in the room unpstairs were having a shower.I think that was just one of those things and it would not put me off staying there again.

Travelling information

By Car:
- Approach York via the north-west side of the ring road.
- Join the A19 towards the town centre (also known as Shipton Road).
- After 2 miles, this route leads into Clifton and then into Bootham; St Peters Grove is on the left before the footbridge opposite St Peters school.

By Train:
From the railway station:
- Turn left out of the station towards the Minster.
- Cross the river via Lendal Bridge.
- At the first set of traffic lights, turn left onto Exhibition Square.
- Take the next left at the lights onto Bootham.
- St Peters Grove is about 800 yards further along on the right.
