The hotel is situated within its own established grounds in a quiet location 15 minutes walk from the small village of Windermere and one and a half miles from Bowness-on-Windermere. The room was large and easily accessible with necessary facilities, the bathroom was again spacious (equipped for the disabled person) being a wet room with only a shower, albeit the hotel is advertised as being suitable for people with visual impairments / physical disabilities as well as the able bodied. Large comfy bed, loads of storage space, hot and powerful shower, huge bath towels and more. Would definitely recommend evening meal at hotel. Food cooked to order so served fresh and hot. We had soup followed by scampi and rump steak. Very filling, very tasty and very reasonably priced. Bottle of cabernet sauvignon also went down very well! Breakfas. Yes. When you book a hotel without even speaking to anyone it is always a gamble. However from the time we arived until the time we departed we found everything excellent, and I mean everything. The food was very good and the menu choice very varied. The waiting at table was without doubt unique, at least to us, and retained just the right balance between formality and informality if this makes sense. The room was cleaned spotlessly every day. The one thing that stood out was the proportion of . Lovely hotel, warm welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. The hotel is in a quiet location, out of the town, set up high, you can see the lake through the trees. Staff very friendly and polite. Good spacious room, yes the bathroom was a wetroom, however this is a hotel which caters for disabled/visually impaired guests (and their dogs) - not a problem for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had full use of the swimming pool which was nice & warm. The room was gorgeous, but mostly when our daughter was struck down with sickness, Ben who was the active duty manager that morning went above and beyond to help us get her a hospital appointment, and was very helpful. He is a valued member if staff there. The location meant walking about a mile down to bowness town which. Loved the relaxed atmosphere at hotel and it was great to have the blind residents with their guide dogs casually walking around! The guide dogs were off harness so could relax with other dogs to play! Very accessible to Lake Windermere and the cruises and beautiful Lake District scenery. Leaving hotel to travel north over Kirkstone Pass to Penrith with magnificent views and onto to Ullswater and more views! Staff at hotel very relaxed and friendly. Speaking bedside clocks were fun and obviousl. My wife and I think the whole experience of staying at the hotel was wonderful, all the staff were very friendly, and very helpful with everything asked, most enjoyable breakfast and from the reception they arranged for a little longer stay in our room before check out, this was appreciated as we had a wedding to go to at 3.00 p.m. this extra time in our room allowed us to get changed for the wedding. Along a footpathed road. It doesn't have street lights though so would suggest a taxi if its dark. Very comfortable and extremely clean. We booked very late (Thu to stay Fri) on a very hot and sunny July weekend and still got a room with a view of the lake, even though it was the last room they had available. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again. everything. what can I say. the room was beautiful, clean and so very quiet, we were in the upstairs of the cottage. room 34. private parking outside the cottage. such a big room and perfect bathroom with bath and power shower. It was a lovely hotel, clean, comfortable and warm though the carpet in our room looked as if it had a few coffee stains which could be looked at. I would suggest if you are allergic to dogs to not go here as there are a lot of guide dogs as its blind person friendly. Until arrival unaware it was a Vision Hotel but were pleased to see how the facilities and staff catered for that group. My Partner and I stayed for just the one night. We found all to be to our liking, Big Room which had all we needed, massive bed, en-suite was very clean and the Staff, attentitive and pleasant. We will look to stay here again if visiting the lakes. The staff were especially helpful to the people with restricted vision. We have stayed several times and are never disappointed. Reception, restaurant and housekeeping staff are all excellent. Already looking forward to our next visit. The hotel is very comfortable. This is basically a hotel geared for the blind and their guide dogs. This fact does not affect the running of the hotel. The bedrooms were excellent with all facilities. The breakfast was very good. The weather turned a bit bad on the second half of the week. You have no control over that and are excused. The bathroom could do with a lick of paint. The duvets were quite heavy and we were hot !! Suggest a lighter duvet with the choice of a blanket ?. Slightly difficult to find. Seemed to be signposted better coming up from bowness than it did from the roundabout the other way. Other than that it was stunning. only think that I didn't like was another guest complaining there was no dog bowl in his room. isn't this the kind of thing dog owners should have with them? and especially when he was allowed to check in well before time. there is always one though. and the staff sorted the problem straight away. leaving!. Swimming pool changing room was a bit basic and small. Wasn't easy to find when we returned in the dark as the turn off isn't well lit. Was a 25 min walk into windermere or 30 mins to Bowness so not ever so handy for pubs and restaurants as I have a bad back and can't walk too far. My wife is a vegetarian and the breakfast was the same as the full English but with no bacon or sausage, so she felt a bit short changed. There is absolutely NOTHING we disliked!. Very little to criticise!. It was nice to have the guide dogs about the place but when it rained there was a certain odour of wet dog in the bedrooms. Nothing not to like :). Noisy neighbours who came back to their room late and began playing loud music until 3 in the morning without any consideration for those trying to sleep. - The counter staff wasn't that friendly. - The hotel can only allow us to deposit our luggage at the hotel until 2pm on the check-out day, even we are only leaving Windermere in the late evening. We found it very unreasonable. nothing. Nothing. No dislikes at all. Pool being so busy. No wifi in room. Apart from that. Beautiful. The dining room staff were wonderful the girls on the desk seemed harrassed and not very well trained and not. Very welcoming. Absolutely nothing!. no internet in the rooms, we had to come downstairs to connect in the bar...I was doing some businedd and it was most annowing, 3G doesn't work in this area!!!. This is so-called a vision hotel, so there are always some guide dogs in the hotel. I am not against this fact, just to remind you if in case you have some issue with dogs. The bed had a very soft mattress. 1- internet is not available in the rooms. 2- signs to the hotel are not at all clear. the sign is placed where you cannot see it on your way to the hotel, we had to go forward then return back, and only then we were able to see the hotel sign. Clear signs in clear places need to be placed. We can all find something if we look - But why do people have to put it in writing - the place was excellent. One gentleman ordered the mushrooms but it was in a little tapas type dish and he was blind, it could have been served in a soup bowl and he would not have got in such a mess with the mushrooms. Otherwise no other dislikes. Gourmet Night?!..Sorry... SUNDAY LUNCH re-heated carvery is not on at any price!!. Without transport it is not so easy to access but there is a pre-booked shuttle bus you can get from the station. There is a bus stop about 10 minutes walk from the hotel to get buses to Windermere and Ambleside. The only thing that really upset me was the lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms. You have to go to a public area. Room was hot and we slept with the window open but there is also a fan in the room and a water bowl to the dog (nice touch). Very limited hours to the swimming pool. Fish on dinner menu was poor quality & very small portion. The room, while good and spacious, did need a little basic maintenance in the bathroom. Some of the white and yellow lines on the roads could also use touching up as were quite faint. But nothing at all serious. I thought the room wa very well layed out but the mattress a bit uncomfortable. our overall stay was a lovely experience and will probablt return, Thanks.
