Newstead is located between the villages of Windermere and Bowness in the beautiful Lake District. This grand Victorian villa is an outstanding 5-star guest house offering lovely en suite rooms. With Victorian fireplaces, rooms are all individually decorated. All are en suite with showers, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout Newstead. The Newstead Lake District Guest House was built in 1897 from traditional Lakeland stone. It retains many original features including a Victorian rose terrace, marble fireplaces and mahogany woodwork. A traditional breakfast is served in the dining room with its stunning Flemish brass chandeliers and antique barley twist tables. Vegetarians can also be catered for. Guests can use a private leisure club, a 5-minute drive away, for a small charge. Amongst its many features are a heated pool, gym, and indoor and outdoor jet spas. The Newstead Guest House is just a 15-minute walk from Lake Windermere. Bowness is also close by and both have a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants.

Breakfast is served between 08:30 and 09:15 at individual tables in the guest dining room. Fruit juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, toast and jam with a range of fruit and cereals are available from the sideboard. After this, a full cooked traditional breakfast is served, including fried egg, hash browns, sausage, tomatoes, bacon and mushrooms. Breakfasts are prepared to order and served fresh on hot plates. Only the freshest, highest quality award-winning produce from local farms is used. Baked beans, poached, boiled and scrambled eggs on toast topped with salmon strips may also be ordered. A cooked vegetarian breakfast is available on request. The guest house does not allow takeaway meals on the premises.

There are 4 Superior Doubles, 2 King 4 Posters and 2 Super King Sized 4 Poster beds on the Ground, 1st and 2nd floors. Rooms are all ensuite showers while room 7 has a shower/bath combination. TV and tea and coffee making facilities are provided.

Bland, soulless, contemporary design has been avoided in the decoration of the house in favour of the uniquely, elegant, rich and interesting styles of the Arts and Crafts, Art Deco and Art Noveau movements creating true harmony between the house and the tradition of the area. Each of the 9 guest rooms is individually decorated to a high standard.

Travelling information

By Train: Newstead is only a 10-minute walk from Windermere Railway Station. Taxis and buses are readily available outside the station. By Bus: The station is also a hub for bus services connecting Windermere with Coniston, Grasmere, Keswick, and other destinations in Cumbria. There is also a bus stop near the guest house. By Car (from the M6 motorway): - Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 and take the A591 to Windermere. - Windermere is about 25 minutes from the motorway. - Driving through Windermere towards Bowness, Newstead is the second property on the left after Brook Road, but before a small wooded park and an 8-metre-high stone clock tower. At night, look for 3 ball lights at the front of the property. Parking: There is free private parking to the rear of the property, with parking for 10 vehicles.
