We had a wonderful stay at Firgarth. We were greeted as soon as we arrived with a cup of tea and really helpful advice and suggestions for things to do. Our room was very cosy and cleaned every day; breakfast was delicious and made to our particular requests. The thing that stands out the most about Firgarth was the genuine friendliness of the owners Pam and Col, ensuring the comfort of our stay.
all reviews » Colin and pam are probably the best hosts we've had. They simlpy could not do enough for us. They suggested places to see and eat. The rooms are excellent, clean and tidy. We'll be returning at some point with friends of ours. The location of the guest house is bang in the middle of the important places to eat and visit. Couldn't have chosen a better place to spend our 3 days in the lake...The fact that the place was so clean and everything in the room fresh. The minute details of cups in the bathroom wrapped in plastic to keep clean and the samples of soaps etc. The rooms were cleaned everyday unless you asked not to. The owners were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them. Our breakfasts were excellent with a wide choice of fres fruit and cereals. From first entering, the heartfelt and generous welcoming. The cleanliness and comfort, I wish all guest houses would take a lesson from these people. More than the usual extras were in the bedrooms, such a variety of tea coffee and chocolate. Lovely soaps etc. Thank you Pam and Colin and so sorry that we forgot to fill in your guest book.We were planning to stay in a bigger hotel, but having seen the reviews, decided to give the Firgarth a go. We didn't regret it for one minute. I can't fault it at all. You get a wonderful welcome with a nice hot pot of tea and an explanation of where all best places to eat are situated. Breakfast is fantastic and we will definitely go back. excelant value,very welcoming and friendly staff who couldnt do enough for us,food better than expected,very comfortable and immaculate bedrooms.we wanted an extra night but they only had a single room left so we decided to accept it,to our suprise it had a double bed,room wasnt that small and much cheaper,excelant!!. Very friendly welcoming owners, they were curtious and polite. The breakfast was fresh with lots of choice. Our room was immaculate and we had no problems at all. One of the best guest houses I've ever stayed at. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for making our stay such a memorable one. Single sex groups are also not accepted. Minimum Stays: Please note that when booking there is a minimum stay of 2 nights, and 3 nights during public holidays. Payment Information: The guest house does not accept American Express cards. Smoking: Please note that The Firgarth has a strict non-smoking policy. Guests will be asked to vacate the room immediately if evidence of smoking is found, and a minimum charge of GBP 200.00 will be applied to the credit/debit card used to make the reservation, to cover all additional cleaning and dry cleaning costs. Please note that the Firgarth is a guest house and, whilst high standards are offered, it is important to remember that it is not a hotel.

Information about the area

There is always much to see and do around Lake Windermere, England's longest lake. You can enjoy pleasure boats on the lake, the World of Beatrix Potter exhibition, the Windermere Steamboat Museum, the Brockhole Visitor Centre, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, and the Aquarium of the Lakes.

Bowness and Windermere villages are also worth exploring, with all sorts of interesting shops, and many places to wine and dine yourself.

Further afield, but still within the Lake District National Park, you will find places such as Grasmere (home to William Wordsworth), Ambleside, Coniston, Hawkshead and Keswick, each of which has its own unique charm.

By Car (from the M6):
- From junction 36 of the M6 follow the A591 to Windermere.
