What people say
We loved our stay! The hotel was beautiful and spotless. The complimentary breakfast was also very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our family room (slept 3) was beautiful. It had a nice, large bathroom and everything was very clean. We felt it was reasonable priced and only a short walk from the train station and shops. We would definately stay there again. The owner was incredibly friendly and he and the staff made our family very comfortable. They also has great suggestions for child-friendly places to eat and a wonderful location where we could walk wherever we wanted to go. Our room was also very comfortable with more than enough space for us and all of our kids accessories.all reviews »

Was just a very nice Hotel, which i would recomend to other people. The Breakfast, and the room we stayed in. Clean, welcoming, close to town centre.helpful and friendly. good location. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Very clean, welllocated for Windermere and a reasonable walk to Bowness. Good breakfastand on site parking was a bonus.Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Cleanliness of hotel. Well presented food. Pleasant staff, very nice breakfast. very nice shower and very clean.Polite and friendly staff, the lovely breakfast and good location. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.friendly and helpful staff and very convenient location. Closeness of other facilities and amenities. The size of the room. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Extremely clean room and very comfortable stay.size of bed would like king size because im a crazy sleeper and air con it was boiling and couldn't open windows but we coped :). As an asthmatic, and having a bad hip I had difficulty getting up to the top floor to our room, and being quite tall found it hard to bend down under the roof beams in the bedroom.a little noisy from other rooms. pity there wasnt a bar. Felt the staff were a bit quick clearing the table whilst I was stillhaving breakfast - made it less relaxed. No bar or restaurant, which was a shame seeing as the rbeakfast was so good.Car parking, whilst convenient, was a little tight, not helped by a builder's van - not the hotal's faultt. Breakfast was good, but might have offered a better range beyond a full English - cheese and cold meats, for example. This is a suggestion rather than a complaint, by the way. Could have done with fan in room as only one window to open and it got very hot at night. No lift to second floor. Though it is a very good hotel we found it slightly overpriced considering that it has no special facilities (apart from a lounge area). But as our stay was around New Year we couldn't find anywhere else to stay and went for this more expensive option.no. Rooms rather small but adequate.small room with small window. Our room was in the eaves with some restricted head room. The en-suitewas very clean, but dated. For the money, would have prefered a largerroom, but understand that it was luck of the draw.A small room, perhaps their smallest, which I would not request again. We were led to believe our bed was a double bed but turned out it was a "special" type where two twins are pushed together, an issue of miscommunication. The room required decorating.

The lodge serves a Cumbrian Breakfast (08:30 - 09:30), which can be enjoyed in either of the 2 bright, spacious and tastefully decorated dining rooms. In one of the rooms is a charming grandfather clock.
As the lodge is only 2 minutes from the centre of the town, it has selected to only cater for breakfasts, so you can enjoy the many restaurants and bars in the town.
Hotel information details
On the first floor there is an open lounge area furnished with Chesterfield sofas, Brinton carpet and original stained glass windows which provide panoramic views across Windermere to the fells beyond. A relaxing area, here you can sit with a book or newspaper and pass the time away, or catch up on the day’s events.
From the lounge, you can descend the original pitch pine wooden staircase to reception which features, again, luxury Briton carpet, hand-made wooden features, a grandfather clock and William Morris wallpaper.
Important information to guests
Please note, guests will be unable to check-in after the latest check-in time of 21:00, as reception will be closed.
Please note this hotel does not accept American Express.
Please also note that the hotel does not accept group booking of more than 3 rooms.
Information about the area
The Lodge is centrally located in the town of Windermere, originally called Birthwaite until the Kendel and Windermere rail company built a train station in the village and called it Windermere Station, a name which has been associated with the village and lake since.
The train station itself is a site to see as are the cottages built in 1849 for the rail executives and designed by the famous architect Augustus Pugin. One of the cottages even contains a replica of the fireplace he designed in the Palace of Westminster.
Room information details
The hotels main priority is for guests to feel relaxed and comfortable in a fresh and clean environment.
Each of the 16 non-smoking, en suite rooms varies in shape and size, some with roof features and exposed beams, others with high ceilings, no room is the same. Dressed with bespoke soft furnishings, luxury 1200 pocket mattresses, Philips 20 inch flat-screen TV’s, aromatherapy toiletries, hairdryers, iron boards (available at reception), tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilities.
There are 4 rooms located on the ground floor and, due to our detached location in Windermere, most of the rooms on the first and second floors have excellent views over trees and roof-tops to the surrounding countryside.
Because the hotel understands that you are here to relax, the lodge provides you with a key so you can come and go as you please. In return, the lodge simply asks that other guests’ relaxation is respected by keeping noise to a minimum.
