This 17th century coaching inn has retained many of its original features, including a hand carved staircase and hand painted sundial.

The bar boasts 2 magnificent fireplaces which are reputedly the largest in East Anglia. We stock cask conditioned ales and a wide selection of fine wines. Food is served in both the bar and restaurant. All bedrooms are en suite, many with feature fireplaces and luxurious four-poster beds.

Situated 2 miles from the historic market town of Diss, on the Norfolk and Suffolk border, The Scole Inn offers an ideal location for exploring both counties. Local attractions include Banham Zoo (8 miles), where 10,000 animals are found in 35 acres of parkland. Highlights include bird of prey displays and a safari road train.

pleasant staff, amazing room, wonderful food bascically the whole stay was amazing and didn't want to leave. I cannot specify anything in particular the complete experience was superb. We shall go again. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. Very friendly, comfortable and traditional inn with good facilities and a lot of character. The friendly bar for a relaxing drink and the live music really added to the stay. As were too late for an evening meal the staff provided us with a leaflet for a Pizza delivery and even offered to have it sent to our rooms when it arrived - this was above and beyond what we would have expected.

The standard of this hotel has deteriated significantly , there were people in the main lounge using foul language which could clearly be heard in the barI am of the opinion that staff should control this situatiion, i am not a prude but the language ias what you would expect in a working mens club, breakfast waited 20 minutes for service , busy business people expect a better service, I will not. The room was in dire need of a clean, some of the window panes were broken, and in general it looked a little shabby. cleanliness of carpets and bathroom. gloomy restaurant - not enough light in bedroom. Lack of comfortable chairs in room for relaxing and reading or watching TV and bathroom layout cramped. Was told we would have to move rooms for second night, hotel full. When we complained about the poor cleanliness and smell of drains in the room, they miraculously found another room for us. The beds were very uncomfortable and they ran out of sausages and bread for sunday breakfast.First room offered was very poor standards of cleanliness; second room the mattress was very old and uncomfortable. Having booked 28 weeks in advance the room we had booked was not available to us. The room provided was small, the telephone was decorative; it was not connected! Ceilin paper was hanging down and there was plastic stuffed into a hole in the ceiling in the en-suite bathroom.Very disappointed, e-mail sent to Oxford Inns.

- Follow the A140 south and at the roundabout in Scole, take the 3rd exit onto Diss Road.
- Turn left and you will find the hotel on the left.

From London:
- Follow the M11 north for Cambridge.
- Exit onto the A11 and continue onto the A143 for Scole.
- Continue through the 1st roundabout and exit onto the A140 (Scole) at 2nd roundabout.
- Cross bridge and at next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Diss Road and continue as above.
