Lovely historic hotel in most impressive natural setting, my husband loved the photos of Edwardian life everywhere in the hotel. The evening entertainment was really excellent. Will definately return.we came for the dancing ballroom dancing competition that was being held spa complex and enjoyed it very much and intend to do the same weekend every year. Relaxed atmosphere, where it was situated close to all amenities. food was good found it quite enjoyable.The food was very good and you could eat as much as you liked. being in a central location to get to see all of scarborough. Everything was as okay. The buffet stlye worked very well. Easy acess to town center and beach entertainment good. convenience of locality. sea view. listed building. how close it was to the sea front and also the shops. lovely hotel with stunning feastures and great food. location of hotel, views, lovely old building. Central position and architectural merits. Quite relaxing and friendly atmosphere.The hotel was very old but impressive. The virus control handwashes .....location , and proximity to town. Convenience for beach and town.The service was very good. The Grand is a symbol of the heyday of Scarborough, where I was born and brought up. The public rooms and its situation remain magnificent, so it was a great experience for me.Jacuzzi bath and free bar when there was a powercut! Also had a sea view room which was lovely. Breakfast had a good choice. no. Difficult parking, tea and coffee facilities could have been of better quality. I liked everything. the lifts stopped working but it added to the friendliness!. did not like being two floors below as there was no view room was a very small. i had to request a change of both rooms this was annoying but was done without any problems. The evening menu wasn't as good as the last time we stayed.ramp outside too steep. bingo and breakfast. The room was a bit small and we could hear the people in the next room. some of the evening meals were disappointing.The restaurant was cool and drafty, however we are aware of an ongoing refurbishment which probably affected this. Wine not available at dinner table. Food was only warm and a lot of tinned vegetables were used - we did think the food quality was very poor. girl on duty in cocktail bar @ 3.30 pm would not serve tea or coffee saying she was too busy and would only serve cold drinks (it was happy hour but not very busy) thehotel coffee bar closed at 3.00 pm so the only recourse we had was to leave the hotel and go to a nearby tearoom for coffee and cakes. I dont think the hotel had ever heard about Vegetarianism as a concept ... this was not really on offer. Help with Parking our car was minimal - a map of the town on arrival would have been helpful with other parking options highlighted. Wasn't exactly a warm welcome at reception desk when checked in. We weren't told were anything was in the hotel, we were told to take 'something tlike the 1st or 2nd lift to 5th level then next one up to 6th floor' but not even told where the lifts were.the room was nice but the mattress was very uncomfortable as it had the springs sticky through it so the first night was a bit wrought. I reported it the next day and a blanket was put around it which made it a bit more comfortable. The beds could do with being replaced, and the curtains could do with beinf fixed found. The televisions are way too small for the rooms, 14inch in a room 20 feet wide was impossible to see from the bed, and with no remote was a pain keep having to get up to switch over. The lifts were too small especially the lift to the lower floors, particularly on the days of arrival and departure when it was almost impossible to use it. We had no problem with staff or service. Wonderful!. some parts were a little shabby, i do think more could of been made of the sun veranda looking out to the sea.Our bedroom was rather small, and it was a bit difficult to get round one side of the bed. Car parking was difficult, with the music festival taking place themusic could be heard very loudly from our room. no games room eg snooker, pool table, table tennis. car parking facilities poor. they had not recieved my internet booking. premier service in restaurant could have been better. Parking is difficult - I received a ticket whilst unloading my car. the staff(especially breakfast) were not very polite. The Matron type breakfast check in.... rooms were abit small.I did not like seeing over 100 slices of toast already cooked when i entered dining room at 7.30 in morning. Could have done with more heating on in the room. the room had no windows to open, no ventalation, no fresh air, it was very stuffy in the room and we felt very closed in. Compared with other Brittania Grand hotels Premier room was not of thesame standard. We had a premium double terrace room which was spacious and comfortable: great view, lovely bathroom. The lighting was poor: only one bedside light, which wasn't bright enough to read by. Dinner, included in our booking, was very disappointing. Service was poor - we had finished our starter and main course before we able to get a bottle of wine. Entertainment on too late! For a Yorkshire hotel the tea was soo weak not actually sure it was tea!.

The magnificent Harbour Lights Restaurant is available daily for private luncheons. Hot or cold meals are available, accompanied by what are, without a doubt, some of the finest sea views along the east coast. Each evening, 3 course buffet style evening meal is served from 18:00pm - 20:30pm. Breakfast is served from 7:30am - 10:30am. Premier Restaurant seats only 60 guests and so the service provided is of a much more intimate nature than that of the larger harbour lights restaurant. The restaurant offers a carvery with a wide selection of dishes and a waitress service for wine and drinks.

Travelling information

By Car:

From York: Follow the a64 which will bring you into the heart of Scarborough and to the Railway Station. Upon reaching the Railway Station follow the signs for the Town Hall. The Grand Hotel stands approximately 300 yards before the Town Hall on your right hand side.

From Whitby (North): Follow the a171 which will again bring you to the Railway station in the Town Centre, again taking the signs to the Town Hall.

On foot from the Railway Station:
Turn right out of teh station and walk down the main shopping precinct, passing the Brunswick Shopping Centre and taking a right down Huntriss Row. Upon reaching the end of Huntriss Row you will be able to see the Hotel to your front left. On foot from the station your journey should take no longer than 10 minutes.
